Higher Sem in Practical Philosophy: Romy Eskens (SU) "A Deontology for Attitudes"
The department of philosophy in collaboration with the LGRP-project is delighted to welcome Romy Eskens (SU) who will give a self-contained talk at the Higher seminar in practical philosophy.
Title: A Deontology for Attitudes
Abstract: Can one person wrong another simply by virtue of having a certain attitude (e.g. a sexist belief, a murderous fantasy)? In this paper, I argue ‘yes’ and develop a deontological account of the grounds and nature of this wronging. The account holds that attitudes, even when they remain unexpressed, can constitute degrading and hence wrongful treatment of others.
Nota bene! This seminar will be on a Friday, and the venue is LUXB429
