Hjärt-kärlsjukdom är världens vanligaste dödsorsak. Det främsta underliggande tillståndet är ateroskleros: plack som bildas i blodkärlens väggar och kan orsaka akuta komplikationer, såsom hjärtinfarkt och stroke.
