Higher Seminar in Theoretical Philosophy: Robin Stenwall "Truthmaker Epistemology"

I will present a new take on beliefs that analyse them in terms of the expectations epistemic agents place on the truth conditions for their beliefs. By making use of the kind of truthmaker semantics developed by Kit Fine (2017), I will take the content of A’s belief that p to be determined by the set of expected truthmakers and falsemakers for A’s belief that p. I will argue that the framework presented has the potential to solve various epistemic puzzles, and that it points towards a new take on the Gettier problem.
