I am Associate Professor in Cognitive Science and work as lecturer in the master's program in Cognitive Science, as research leader for a project on Multimodal learning linked to the Humanities Laboratory in Lund, and as senior researcher in Linnaeus environment Cognition, Communication, and Learning at Lund University where I am responsible for two subprojects. My research focuses on language, images, cognition and visual communication. Since 1996 I have been using eye movement measurement to study in detail image perception, the interplay between language and images, the role of images for learning, visual thinking (mental images), and interaction with various media.

Since 1996 I have been using eye movement measurement to study in detail image perception, the interplay between language and images, the role of images for learning, visual thinking (mental images), and interaction with various media.
Several of the studies were conducted jointly with colleagues from Humanities Laboratory in Lund. In periods I have worked as a visiting scientist in Germany and I am a member of several Nordic and international networks, focusing on reading, visual communication and multimodality. The results of my research have been presented in international scientific journals and at international conferences in Europe and the USA.
My book "Discourse, vision and cognition" (Benjamins 2008) concerns perception, interpretation and description of images and the underlying cognitive processes. My recent book "Myths and facts about reading" (Nordstedts 2010) presents research on reading and on the interplay between language and images in various media. My new book "Methodologies for multimodal research" (Sage 2012) is focusing on novel methods and tools for the analysis of visual communication and multimodality including an interdisciplinary framework and a triangulation of methods.
During my time in Germany and Czech Republic (1986 -1992) I did research on spoken language, narratives and interpretation by means of conversation analysis, discourse analysis and interpretation.
