14 May 2024 13:15 to 15:00 Seminar

CHANGING THE ONLINE-SHARING GAME
(Joint work with J. Jacot & P. Rich)

Online social networks routinely incentivise users to seek out other users' engagement, e.g., through with advertisement revenue-sharing, as in YouTube, X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, making online sharing a strategic interaction. The social epistemology and social science models still have to adequately capture the strategic component of online sharing and factor it into recommendations for the design and regulation of online social networks. In this talk, I outline a strategic model of online sharing and propose a 'reverse game theory' approach to online sharing, particularly to the issue of (mis)information spread. Time (and technical limitations) permitting, I will illustrate this approach with a prototype social network (codename: Trust Social) developed with the support of Lund Innovation.
