Jiwon Kim is a PhD candidate in Practical Philosophy at Lund University, Sweden, where she will defend her dissertation How to Guide with Words: Moral Advice as a Speech Act in October 2025. Her research lies at the intersection of metaethics, philosophy of language, and social epistemology. In her thesis, she develops an intentionalist account of moral advice as a distinctive kind of directive speech act, one that invites deliberation rather than compels compliance, thereby respecting the autonomy of the hearer. Beyond her doctoral work, she has published on questions of aggregation, trade-offs, and uncertainty in AI wellbeing. She has held research visits at the Australian National University and the University of Johannesburg, and her broader interests span normative ethics, value theory, and the philosophy of AI.
