On the social nature of explicating mystery construction in theory development: A response to McKinley ( Dialogue)
Microbial growth responses upon rewetting soil dried for four days or one year
A pulse of respiration is induced by rewetting dry soil. Here we study the microbial responses underlying this pulse of respiration when rewetting soil dried for 4-days or 1-year. In the 4-days dried soil, respiration increased to a maximum rate immediately upon rewetting after which it decreased exponentially. In the 1-year dried soil, respiration also increased immediately, but then remained hig
Structure changes in Er-160 from low to ultrahigh spin
A spectroscopic investigation of the gamma decays from excited states in Er-160 has been performed in order to study the changing structural properties exhibited from low spin up toward ultrahigh spin (I similar to 60 h). The nucleus Er-160 was populated by the reaction Cd-116(Ca-48,4n gamma) at a beam energy of 215 MeV, and resulting gamma decays were studied using the Gammasphere spectrometer. N
Search for single b*-quark production with the ATLAS detector at root s=7 TeV
The results of a search for an excited bottom-quark b* in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, using 4.7 fb(-1) of data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. In the model studied, a single b*-quark is produced through a chromomagnetic interaction and subsequently decays to a W boson and a top quark. The search is performed in the dilepton and lepton + jets final states, which are c
Dose and plasma concentration of galantamine in Alzheimer's disease - clinical application
Introduction: Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) are currently treated with cholinesterase inhibitors, such as galantamine, without actual knowledge of its concentration in plasma. Our objective was to analyse potential relationships between galantamine concentration, galantamine dose, socio-demographic characteristics, body weight, body mass index (BMI), and treatment response. Methods: Eight
Two pollen beetles, Meligethes subrugosus and Meligethes substrigosus in Northern Europe
Modes and moods of mobility : tourists and commuters
What can we learn from comparing different modes and moods of travel, among, for example, tourists and commuters? This paper contrasts these two very different kinds of mobility, and the ways in which they organise both motion and emotion. It is not only a question about how people interact with various systems of transport, but also how materialities and affects work together. An important topic
Exposure to environmental tobacco smoke in childhood and incidence for selected cancers in adulthood: an analysis in the European prospective investigation into cancer and nutrition
The effect of parental quality and malaria infection on nestling performance in the Collared Flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis)
Plumage ornamentation often signals the quality of males and, therefore, female birds may choose elaborately ornamented mates to increase their fitness. Such mate choice may confer both direct and indirect benefits to the offspring. Males with elaborate ornaments may provide good genes, which can result in better nestling growth, survival or resistance against parasitic infections. However, these
Determinants of food demand and the experienced taste effect of healthy labels – An experiment on potato chips and bread
This paper examines the importance of taste and health in food demand, as well as the effect on consumers’ experienced taste of the non-intrinsic value of healthy labels. Our analysis is based on taste experiments and Vickrey second price auctions on potato chips and bread. Our findings imply a large positive effect on demand, as measured by willingness to pay, for potato chips from higher taste s
2-Aminoadipic acid is a biomarker for diabetes risk
Improvements in metabolite-profiling techniques are providing increased breadth of coverage of the human metabolome and may highlight biomarkers and pathways in common diseases such as diabetes. Using a metabolomics platform that analyzes intermediary organic acids, purines, pyrimidines, and other compounds, we performed a nested case-control study of 188 individuals who developed diabetes and 188
The combination of Ki67, histological grade and estrogen receptor status identifies a low-risk group among 1,854 chemo-naïve women with N0/N1 primary breast cancer.
The aim was to confirm a previously defined prognostic index, combining a proliferation marker, histological grade, and estrogen receptor (ER) in different subsets of primary N0/N1 chemo-naïve breast cancer patients.

Incorporating double copies of a chromatin insulator into lentiviral vectors results in less viral integrants
Background: Lentiviral vectors hold great promise as gene transfer vectors in gene therapeutic settings. However, problems related to the risk of insertional mutagenesis, transgene silencing and positional effects have stalled the use of such vectors in the clinic. Chromatin insulators are boundary elements that can prevent enhancer-promoter interactions, if placed between these elements, and prot

The Gaia inertial reference frame and the tilting of the Milky Way disk
While the precise relationship between the Milky Way disk and the symmetry planes of the dark matter halo remains somewhat uncertain, a time-varying disk orientation with respect to an inertial reference frame seems probable. Hierarchical structure formation models predict that the dark matter halo is triaxial and tumbles with a characteristic rate of similar to 2 rad H-0(-1) (similar to 30 mu as
Laminar burning velocities of n-heptane, iso-octane, ethanol and their binary and tertiary mixtures
Measurements of the adiabatic laminar burning velocities of n-heptane, iso-octane, ethanol and their binary and tertiary mixtures are reported. Non-stretched flames were stabilized on a perforated plate burner at 1 atm. The Heat Flux method was used to determine burning velocities under conditions when the net heat loss from the flame to the burner is zero. Initial temperatures of the gas mixtures
Syntaktisk variation och förändring : En studie av subjektslösa satser i fornsvenska
The topic of this thesis is subjectless clauses in Old Swedish (1225–1526). The thesis focuses on referential subjects, and addresses the problem of why the possibilities to leave out such subjects have been reduced during the history of Swedish. The dissertation consists of three main parts, divided into eight chapters. In the first part, chapters 1–3, the aims are presented and a theoretical bac
Heavy Ion Inital States from DIPSY
A BFKL dipole model, and its event generator DIPSY, developed for pp collisions is extended to initial states of heavy ion collisions. All tuning is made for gamma*p and pp inclusive and minimum bias data, leaving the extension to heavy ions model independent. Eccentricities are calculated and compared to other common inital state models.
