RA1 focuses on the development of Earth system models and their application to learn about the character, scope and significance of feedback mechanisms linking the biosphere and atmosphere - both globally and in contrasting regions and climate zones of the world. The biosphere affects the energy balance and radiation retention of the atmosphere via biogeophysical and biogeochemical feedback mechan

RA2’s overall aim is to use empirical proxydata of past climate and land cover to evaluate and develop Earth system models and regional, coupled vegetation-climate models. The research also addresses the identification of underestimated or missing processes in Earth System Models. The spread of the temperature projections for the next century indicates a considerable uncertainty range for climate

The overall aim of RA3 is to formulate and validate a model framework - linking vegetation, aerosols, clouds and their climate feedbacks. To do this, we use a combination of laboratory studies, field studies and modelling. Aerosol particles and their role for clouds and climate is an important part of climate research and of huge importance for air quality around the world. The concept of short-li

The focus of RA4 is to provide and develop statistical models and methods that improve the analysis and evaluation of climate data and output from climate and earth system models on a global, regional, and local scale. The work includes both development of new statistical methodology that is widely applicable to spatial and spatio-temporal datasets and the use of modern statistical methods to anal
