Applications in Monocular Computer Vision using Geometry and Learning : Map Merging, 3D Reconstruction and Detection of Geometric Primitives

As the dream of autonomous vehicles moving around in our world comes closer, the problem of robust localization and mapping is essential to solve. In this inherently structured and geometric problem we also want the agents to learn from experience in a data driven fashion. Form-factor of low-lying Kπ=1+ excitations in rare-earth nuclei

The differential cross section of inelastic electron scattering for the low-lying “collective” Kπ=1+ excitations in rare-earth nuclei is calculated in DWBA by using microscopically calculated transition-densities. In the region of low-momentum transfer (q⪅0.5 fm-1) in which experimental data are available the shape of calcualted cross sections is almost the same for all nuclei and is slightly but

The effect of the presence of quadrupole pairing on the properties of Kπ = 1+ states in doubly even nuclei

The influence of a quadrupole pair interaction on Kπ = 1+ states in rare earth nuclei is investigated using the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation. Comparison of the obtained results with available experimental data indicates a rather weak quadrupole pair interaction in these nuclei. The calculation of the B(M1) strength is extended to higher energies to account for the recently observed hig

Deformation dependence of magnetic dipole strength below 4 MeV in doubly even rare earth nuclei

We show: (1) In the presence of the pair correlation the M1 transition strength calculated in the deformed oscillator model has a dependence on the quadrupole deformation parameter δ which is considerably stronger than linear and, in fact, it varies quadratically with δ in the limit of small deformation; (2) The deformation dependence in samarium isotopes calculated using the quasiparticle random

Nature inspired node density estimation for molecular nanonetworks

The problem of estimating the node density in ad hoc networks is a significant one for protocol design. In molecular nanonetworks, the node density estimation problem poses additional challenges due to the limited processing and communication capabilities of the network nodes which necessitate the design of simple to implement distributed solutions, and the diffusion based communication channel wh

Attitudes related to technology for active and healthy aging in a national multigenerational survey

Research is needed to understand attitudes toward and adoption of the broad range of technologies available to support active and healthy aging in different generations. The present article gives an overview of the GenerationTech survey and sample, and describes attitudes and acceptance related to technology in general and as a means to support active and healthy aging. A national survey was condu

Towards fault adaptive routing in metasurface controller networks

HyperSurfaces (HSFs) comprise structurally reconfigurable metasurfaces whose electromagnetic properties can be changed via a software interface, using an embed- ded miniaturized network of controllers, enabling novel capabilities in wireless communications, including 5G applications. Resource constraints associated with a hardware testbed of this breakthrough technology, currently under developmen

A field test of computer-vision-based gaze estimation in psychology

Computer-vision-based gaze estimation refers to techniques that estimate gaze direction directly from video recordings of the eyes or face without the need for an eye tracker. Although many such methods exist, their validation is often found in the technical literature (e.g., computer science conference papers). We aimed to (1) identify which computer-vision-based gaze estimation methods are usabl

Dubbla budskap och Muslimska Brödraskapet i Sverige : Replik på Frédéric Brusis recension

In the academic discussion about the Muslim Brotherhood, MB in Sweden, there is consensus that the Islamic Association in Sweden, IFiS is inspired by MB but the organizational relationship between the organizations has not been researched before. Holy White Lies is an English translation of the original Arabic book al-Kedhb al-Abyad al-Muqaddas. Both books were published in Cairo 2018. The book co

Koncentrationerna av mikroföroreningar var i samma storleksordning som i svenska dricksvattentäkter, och därmed i nivå med vad vThe treated wastewater from a full scale MBR and GAC reached drinking water quality regarding metals, but not bacteria. The water quality is however assessed as sufficient for irrigation or as a source water for drinking water production, based on the parameters analyzed in the project. The concentrations of organic micro pollutants were similar to the ones measured in Swedish drinking water sourc

Identification of a weight loss-associated causal eQTL in MTIF3 and the effects of MTIF3 deficiency on human adipocyte function

Genetic variation at the MTIF3 (Mitochondrial Translational Initiation Factor 3) locus has been robustly associated with obesity in humans, but the functional basis behind this association is not known. Here, we applied luciferase reporter assay to map potential functional variants in the haplotype block tagged by rs1885988 and used CRISPR-Cas9 to edit the potential functional variants to confirm

The Multi-view Geometry of Parallel Cylinders

In this paper we study structure from motion problems for parallel cylinders. Using sparse keypoint correspondences is an efficient (and standard) way to solve the structure from motion problem. However, point features are sometimes unavailable and they can be unstable over time and viewing conditions. Instead, we propose a framework based on silhouettes of quadric surfaces, with special emphasis In this paper we study structure from motion problems for parallel cylinders. New aspects of allergic mechanisms and innate immunity in asthma. Alarmins as upstream mediators of asthma inflammation.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory lung disease affecting over 300 million individuals worldwide. Both respiratory viral infections and aeroallergens have been identified as important risk factors for asthma. Rhinovirus (RV) infection has been recognized as a major cause of asthma exacerbations, and current research indicates that RV and allergens may have a synergistic effect, resulting in a higher

Managing barriers to sustainable urban freight systems : exploring the city’s influence on a transition

Urban freight logistics is a growing phenomenon in cities and contributes to the wealth of citizens and businesses in urban areas. But it also has negative side effects such as emissions, congestion, and accidents, which eradicate some of their benefits for society. The current development of urban freight logistic activities is unsustainable. A more sustainable path of development is needed but i

Saliva: a cell suspension of epithelial cells harboring the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 and the growth factor EGF

Saliva plays a crucial role in maintaining oral health through its physical and chemical properties that provide various protective functions. One of its essential components is the human host defense peptide LL-37, which is produced by immune cells and epithelial cells, and participates in the first line of defense against pathogens. LL-37 is a potent antimicrobial agent against both gram-positiv

From Exclusion to Extremism : The Role of Significance Loss and Identity in the Radicalization Process

Trots det finns det få empiriska studier som utforskar sambaThe present thesis aims to examine the causal role of social exclusion within theradicalization process and further to explore moderating and mediating factors. In recent years there has been a move away from trying to understand who is at risk of becoming an extremist, to exploring what makes someone at risk. Feelings of exclusion, discrimination and marginalization have all been linked to partic
