Incorporation of dietary 14Carachidonic and 3Heicosapentaenoic acid into tissue lipids during absorption of a fisk oil emulsion

A preferential incorporation of dietary arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) into chyle lipoprotein phospholipids, a relative resistance of 20:4 esters of chyle triacylglycerol (TG) to hydrolysis by lipoprotein lipase, a preferential utilization of 20:4 for phospholipid acylation, and a low rate of oxidation of 20:4 are factors that may contribute to the differences seen in the incorporation into tissue l

Reasons and Normativity

Normative reasons are of constant importance to us as agents trying to navigate through life. For this reason it is natural and vital to ask philosophical questions about reasons and the normative realm. This thesis explores various issues concerning reasons and normativity. The thesis consists of five free-standingpapers and an extended introduction. The aim of the extended introduction is not me

Adaptive regulation of lipoprotein lipase and salt-resistant lipase activities in essential fatty acid deficiency. An experimental study in the rat.

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activities of postheparin plasma, heart, lungs, and adipose tissue, and salt-resistant lipase (hepatic lipase, SRL) activities of postheparin plasma, liver, and adrenals were examined in essential fatty acid deficient (EFAD) rats and in age-matched controls. The LPL activity of heart was higher in the deficient than in the control rats, but did not differ in the other tissLipoprotein lipase (LPL) activities of postheparin plasma, heart, lungs, and adipose tissue, and salt-resistant lipase (hepatic lipase, SRL) activities of postheparin plasma, liver, and adrenals were examined in essential fatty acid deficient (EFAD) rats and in age-matched controls. Absorption and metaboliosm of 3Harachidonic and 14Clinoleic acid in in esential fatty acid deficient rats

[3H]arachidonic acid (20:4) and [14C]linoleic acid (18:2) were fed in a triolein emulsion to essential fatty acid-deficient (EFAD) rats and to age-matched controls. Tissues were analyzed for radioactivity of different lipid classes after 1, 2, and 4 h. As in earlier studies [Nilsson and Melin. Am. J. Physiol. 255 (Gastrointest. Liver Physiol. 19): G612-G618, 1988], control rats retained more [3H]2[3H]arachidonic acid (20:4) and [14C]linoleic acid (18:2) were fed in a triolein emulsion to essential fatty acid-deficient (EFAD) rats and to age-matched controls. Interviewing the Enemy and other Cold War Players: US Foreign Policy as Seen Through Playboy During the Reagan Years

It is a common joke that Playboy magazine has been “read for the articles.” However, there has been relatively little academic interest in what the articles in Playboy have actually been about. As this essay shows, the volumes of Playboy magazine offer a remarkable archive of critical reviews of US foreign politics. The chapter approaches Playboy as one of the spaces for expanding the political un

Metabolism of 3H labelled arachidonic acid and 14C labelled linoleic acid in essential fatty acid deficient rats

Mesenteric duct chylomicrons labelled with [3H]arachidonic (20:4) and [14C]linoleic (18:2) acid were injected intravenously into essential fatty acid-deficient (EFAD) and control rats. The rats were killed after 5, 10, 20 and 240 min, and serum and different organs were analysed for radioactivity of different lipid classes. 3H and 14C in the triacylglycerol (TG) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) fMesenteric duct chylomicrons labelled with [3H]arachidonic (20:4) and [14C]linoleic (18:2) acid were injected intravenously into essential fatty acid-deficient (EFAD) and control rats. Comparison of dermal vs internal light administration in human lungs using the TDLAS-GASMAS technique—Phantom studies

Oxygen and water vapor content, in the lungs of a 3D-printed phantom model based on CT-images of a preterm infant, is evaluated using Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) in Gas in Scattering Media Absorption Spectroscopy (GASMAS), that is, the TDLAS-GASMAS technique. Oxygen gas is detected through an absorption line near 764 nm and water vapor through an absorption line near 820 nm

Change your language, change your mind? : The impact of framing, language use, and language switching on Swedish speakers’ decision making

Research findings on whether or not using a foreign language systematically alters people’s decisions by mitigating framing effects, are inconclusive. The bulk of previous research suggests that our decisions are affected by the language they are made in. A more recent study however indicates that this phenomenon might be related to an unexpected switch of language prior to a decision rather than

Antiferromagnetism with a twist

A variety of magnetic structures based around ferromagnetic spin spirals have been the topic of intense study over the past decade. The discovery of spin spirals that arise from antiferromagnetic order has just broadened the horizons for magnetic possibilities even further.
