Review of Oloph Bexell, Präster i S:t Sigfrids stift 3. Minnesteckningar till prästmötet i Växjö stift 2002. Lund 2002
Morphology, structure, and electronic properties of Ce@C-82 films on Ag : Si(111)-(root 3x root 3)R30 degrees
The adsorption behaviour and electronic properties of Ce@C-82 molecules on the Ag: Si(l I I)-(root3 x root3)R30degrees surface have been studied using scanning tunnelling microscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy. Submonolayer coverages and multilayer films of Ce@C-82 comprise highly ordered molecular domains which have a single, well-defined orientation with respect to the underlying substrate cr
Inhibition effects of furfural on alcohol dehydrogenase, aldehyde dehydrogenase and pyruvate dehydrogenase.
The kinetics of furfural inhibition of the enzymes alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH; EC 1.1.1.1), aldehyde dehydrogenase (AlDH; EC 1.2.1.5) and the pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) complex were studied in vitro. At a concentration of less than 2 mM furfural was found to decrease the activity of both PDH and AlDH by more than 90%, whereas the ADH activity decreased by less than 20% at the same concentration.
Hepatic lipase activity increases after liver denervation in the rat
We have investigated the effects of hilar denervation of rat liver upon the activity of hepatic lipase determined in tissue extracts. Denervated animals had an enzyme activity of 7.89 +/- 0.37 mU/mg protein, compared to 6.45 +/- 0.43 in sham-operated controls (mean +/- S.E.; P less than 0.05). We conclude that hepatic innervation may contribute to the regulation of hepatic lipase activity.
Performance of health-status scales when used selectively or within multi-scale questionnaire
BACKGROUND: Little work has been done to investigate the suggestion that the use of selected scales from a multi-scale health-status questionnaire would compromise reliability and validity. The aim of this study was to compare the performance of three scales selected from the SF-36 generic health questionnaire when administered in isolation or within the entire SF-36 to patients with musculoskelet
On the systematic measurement errors of correlative mobile radio channel sounders
We show that measurements of time-varying mobile radio channels obtained with uncalibrated correlative channel sounders are affected by four different types of systematic errors (commutation, pulse-compression, aliasing, and misinterpretation error). We analyze these errors and provide upper error bounds that are formulated in terms of channel and sounder parameters. Based on these error bounds, w
Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Tumor Growth Inhibition and Cartilage Differentiation
The work presented in this thesis has been focused on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In the two first studies, the effects of MSCs on tumor growth and development in vitro and in vivo was investigated. In the third study the expression of the integrins alpha10beta1 and alpha11beta1 on MSCs was characterized and the involvement of these two integrins in cartilage development was investigated in vit

Essential fatty acids and phosphorus in seston from lakes with contrasting terrestrial dissolved organic carbon content
1. It is often assumed that lakes highly influenced by terrestrial organic matter (TOM) have low zooplankton food quality because of elemental and/or biochemical deficiencies of the major particulate organic carbon pools. We used the biochemical [polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) - 20:5 omega 3] and elemental (C : P ratio) composition of particulate matter (PM) as

Systems Thinking in Supply Chain Measurements
Both practitioners and research scientists have noted a number of problems regarding measurement activities during the past decade. The problems reported suggest that measurement activities are fragmented both within and across organizations. This article expands on a systems perspective on supply chain measurements and describes how problems can be communicated, understood and managed by developi
Determination of NO adsorption sites on Pd(100) using core level photoemission and low energy electron diffraction
The adsorption of NO on Pd(1 0 0) is investigated with high resolution core level spectroscopy and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). Several ordered NO overlayers were observed, in agreement with earlier Studies. Our data clearly show that NO adsorbs in fourfold hollow sites at coverages tip to 0.25 -0.30 monolayer (ML) whereas at 0.5 ML only bridge sites are occupied. By a reinterpretation
Hypoglycemic brain injury. I. Metabolic and light microscopic findings in rat cerebral cortex during profound insulin-induced hypoglycemia and in the recovery period following glucose administration
Profound hypoglycemia causing the disappearance of spontaneous EEG activity was induced by insulin in rats. For analysis of cerebral cortical concentrations of labile phosphates, glycolytic metabolites and amino acids, the brain was frozen in situ. For microscopic analysis of the corresponding cerebral cortical areas the brain was fixed by perfusion. Hypoglycemia with an isoelectric EEG for 30 and
The measurement of cell growth in coal slurries
Microbial growth in coal slurries can be detected if surfactant is present in the samples by analysing the protein concentration after disintegration of the cells. Without surfactant present in the samples, the proteins are readily adsorbed on the coal surfaces. A suitable surfactant is sodium dodecyl sulphate at 0.5 to 1% of the sample volume

Mixing oil and water by a DNA-based surfactant
The self-assembly behavior of a cationic surfactant (dodecyltrimethylammonium) with DNA as counterion in mixtures of water and decanol was investigated. The phase diagram was established and the different regions of the phase diagram characterized with respect to microstructure by H-2 NMR (D2O), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and other techniques. The DNA-cationic surfactant aggregate is vir
Do native and polymeric alpha1-antitrypsin activate human neutrophils in vitro?
Background: {alpha}1-Antitrypsin (AAT)-Z deficiency is a risk factor for the development of COPD. Compared to wild-type M, AAT-Z has an increased tendency to polymerize, rendering it inactive as a serine proteinase inhibitor. It has been demonstrated that wild-type M- and Z-deficiency AAT polymers are chemotactic for human neutrophils. However, our own studies dispute a proinflammatory role for po
