OBJECTIVE: To test a simplified blood pressure device called Rastreometro that could be used by the Health Agents.METHODS: The Rastreometro has been developed from an ordinary aneroid sphygmomanometer, in which the numeric display is covered by an adhesive with a red zone, indicating pressures equal or above 140 mmHg and a yellow zone indicating pressures below 140 mmHg. The onset of oscillations
Social trust and sharing economy size : country level evidence from home sharing services
The sharing economy (peer-to-peer based sharing or renting activities coordinated through community-based online services) is often said to be closely related to trust. This paper examines the association empirically. Using data collected from the two sharing economy companies Airbnb and Flipkey that exist in over 100 countries, we construct a measure of sharing economy penetration and examine its

Targeting the hydrophilic regions of recombinant proteins by MS via in-solution buffer-free trypsin digestion
A desalting step using reversed phase chromatography is a common practice prior to mass spectrometry analysis of proteolytic digests in spite of the detrimental exclusion of the hydrophilic peptides. The detection of such peptides is also important for the complete coverage of protein sequences and the analysis of posttranslational modifications as inquired by regulatory agencies for the commercia

Glucolipotoxicity alters insulin secretion via epigenetic changes in human islets
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterized by insufficient insulin secretion and elevated glucose levels, often in combination with high levels of circulating fatty acids. Long-term exposure to high levels of glucose or fatty acids impair insulin secretion in pancreatic islets, which could partly be due to epigenetic alterations. We studied the effects of high concentrations of glucose and palmitate c

Role of cyclin-dependent kinase 2 in the progression of mouse juvenile cystic kidney disease
A hallmark of polycystic kidney diseases (PKDs) is aberrant proliferation, which leads to the formation and growth of renal cysts. Proliferation is mediated by cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks), and the administration of roscovitine (a pan-Cdk inhibitor) attenuates renal cystic disease in juvenile cystic kidney (jck) mice. Cdk2 is a key regulator of cell proliferation, but its specific role in PKD r

Medieval Swedish Sermons on St. Olaf
Artikeln presenterar svensk senmedeltida helgonpredikan i allmänhet, några generella drag hos de ca 30 bevarade predikningarna om S:t Olof samt en mer ingående redogörelse för en av dessa. The contribution presents preserved medieval Nordic sermons on St Olaf, all of which are found in Latin manuscripts from the medieval library of Vadstena Abbey. After a brief discussion of what they sermons say about St Olaf and what sources the preachers may have used, the contents of one specific sermon are given in summary form.
Standardised measurement of physical capacity in young and middle-aged active adults with hip-related pain : Recommendations from the first International Hip-related Pain Research Network (IHiPRN) meeting, Zurich, 2018
Hip-related pain can significantly impact quality of life, function, work capacity, physical activity and family life. Standardised measurement methods of physical capacity of relevance to young and middle-aged active adults with hip-related pain are currently not established. The aim of this consensus paper was to provide recommendations for clinical practice and research on standardised measurem
Nomenclature and semantic descriptions of ulcerative and inflammatory lesions seen in Crohn’s disease in small bowel capsule endoscopy : An international Delphi consensus statement
Background: In the medical literature, the nomenclature and descriptions (ND) of small bowel (SB) ulcerative and inflammatory (U-I) lesions in capsule endoscopy (CE) are scarce and inconsistent. Inter-observer variability in interpreting these findings remains a major limitation in the assessment of the severity of mucosal lesions, which can impact negatively on clinical care, training and researc
Inhibitor incidence in an unselected cohort of previously untreated patients with severe haemophilia B : a PedNet study
The incidence of FIX inhibitors in severe hemophilia B (SHB) is not well defined. Frequencies of 3-5% have been reported but most studies to date were small, including patients with different severities, and without prospective follow-up for inhibitor incidence. Study objective was to investigate inhibitor incidence in patients with SHB followed up to 500 exposure days (ED), the frequency of aller
Graphene-based plasmonic nanocomposites for highly enhanced solar-driven photocatalytic activities
High-efficiency photocatalysts are crucial for the removal of organic pollutants and environmental sustainability. In the present work, we report on a new low-temperature hydrothermal chemical method, assisted by ultrasonication, to synthesize disruptive plasmonic ZnO/graphene/Ag/AgI nanocomposites for solar-driven photocatalysis. The plasmonic nanocomposites were investigated by a wide range of c
Association between serum concentrations of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and expression of serum microRNAs in a cohort highly exposed to PFAS from drinking water
BACKGROUND: Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widespread synthetic substances with various adverse health effects. Not much is known about the modes of action of PFAS toxicity, but one likely mechanism is alteration of microRNA expression.OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether PFAS exposure is associated with altered microRNA expression in serum.METHODS: We selected women from the Ronneby cohort, w
