This article investigates the geographies of subprime urbanization, and by extension, the displacement of 2007–08 financial crisis to the Global South. Previous research examined the formative ways that technological innovations enabled mortgages to deterritorialize and circulate on secondary markets. Less is known about how cities with underdeveloped financial systems and housing markets have bee

IntroductionThis study is part of an international collaboration that investigates teachers’ attitudes and responses to vignettes depicting school bullying situations. As per Bandura's model of reciprocal determination, attitudes and behavior in these situations can be influenced by individual and contextual factors. This study specifically examines several factors related to teachers ‘professio

This open access anthology explores how legal proceedings in and out-of-court can be matched to the complex problems underlying disputes concerning child custody, residence and contact between parents. It focuses particularly on Nordic experiences of in and out-of-court mechanisms as means of resolving custody disputes. The findings by the internationally renowned contributors speak to an interna

Background The prevalence of mental health issues is rising, especially among youth. Research shows that diagnosable and subthreshold mood disorder symptoms are increasing. Notably, and particularly troublesome, there are indications that some mental health issues, such as non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and disordered eating (DE) behaviors, have increased during the last decades, these reports, h

BACKGROUND: Medication discrepancies in care transitions and medication non-adherence are problematic. Few interventions consider the entire process, from the hospital to the patient's medication use at home.AIM: In preparation for randomised controlled trials (RCTs), this study aimed (1) to investigate the feasibility of recruitment and retention of patients, and data collection to reduce medicat

Recycling trade has become an important initiative for major powers to address rare earth supply risks. With the help of recycling quality evaluation model, competitive intensity model, complex network method, and GIS analysis, the dynamics and characteristics of the global rare earth recycling trade network are revealed in this study. The results show that the global rare earth recycling market i

Genital self-mutilation (GSM) is a rare phenomenon encountered mostly within the context of severe mental illness. The following case report highlights a rare case of self-inflicted total penile self-amputation in a patient with a psychiatric history of polydrug abuse and attention deficit disorder (ADD). The patient engaged in penile self-amputation under the influence of command hallucinations a

TikTok’s viral short-video app has seen tremendous global growth, but its adoption in foreign policy and digital diplomacy is still low. Some diplomatic actors have refrained from developing a presence on TikTok due to geopolitical concerns emerging from TikTok’s Chinese ownership. Other diplomatic actors have established a presence on the platform due to its ability to make content with high enga

We studied the impact of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) based on either creatinine or cystatin C, or in combination, on vascular aging (aortic stiffness) and central hemodynamics (central systolic blood pressure) in a Swedish urban population with median 17 years of follow-up. Participants (n = 5049) from the population-based Malmö Diet and Cancer Study that underwent baseline examina

The geologically complex Kyzylzharma groundwater field is located in the south-central part of Kazakhstan in the lower Syr Darya Basin. It supplies the 243,000 population of Kyzylorda City by drinking and agricultural water needs. Numerical modeling was used to predict the consequences of increased groundwater withdrawal for future water supply needs. The results displayed a mean squared error for

Kazakhstan is facing increasing water scarcity due to climate change and transboundary international water diversions. For this reason, low-quality water with high mineral content needs to be increasingly used in the future. A way to improve water quality for consumptive use is membrane treatment technology. In view of this, we investigated a new type of synthetic spatial-globular structure (SGS)

Although urban greening is universally recognized as an essential part of sustainable and climate-responsive cities, a growing literature on green gentrification argues that new green infrastructure, and greenspace in particular, can contribute to gentrification, thus creating social and racial inequalities in access to the benefits of greenspace and further environmental and climate injustice. In

Accurately scheduling dwell times is vital to ensure punctual and reliable railway services, but the stochastic nature of dwell times makes this a non-trivial task. An important step towards scheduling accurate dwell times is to gain an in-depth understanding of the mechanics that influence dwell times, which is commonly done by modelling the mean dwell time. It is, however, of more interest to un

Weather impacts several aspects of our daily life, of which the way we travel is one. The relationship between weather phenomena and ridership of trains has not received much attention previously. The study we present here aims to understand the impact of temperature, wind, and precipitation on passenger volumes for commuter trains. To do so we make use of automatic passenger count and weather dat

Municipal climate resiliency and re-naturing plans are promoting greening and green (re)development, such as the inclusion of new parks, greenways, or rehabilitated shorelines, frequently as a-political, win-win solutions for all residents. Greenwashing and (re)development of green amenities in vulnerable neighborhoods—those often most in need of support toward resilience and adaptation—expose res

Characterization of emissions from fires in a laboratory-controlled environment are presented in this report. The project is initiated by the CERN HSE Unit and is called FIRIA, Fire-Induced Radiological Integrated Assessment. The objective of FIRIA is to enhance the knowledge of aerosols emitted from fires in order to develop dispersion models of radiologically-activated material in case of fire.

To study the impact of additively manufactured (AM) roughness on fluid flow and heat transfer, we performed a series of high-fidelity large-eddy simulations on turbulent heat transfer over a three-dimensional AM rough surface with varying bulk Reynolds number and average roughness height values. We considered rough surfaces created using AM techniques at Siemens based on Nickel Alloy IN939 materia
