URWARE Wastewater Treatment Plant Models

In this document, a large number of mathematical models describing various physical, biological and chemical processes in a wastewater treatment plant are presented. In most cases, the models are fairly simple as they are inteded for steady-state simulations based on yearly averages of the influent wastewater charteristics. The combination of models forms a software tool namned URWARE (URban WAter

Subjectively Reported Effects Experienced in an Actively Shielded 7T MRI : A Large-Scale Study

Background: Ultrahigh-field (UHF) MRI advances towards clinical use. Patient compliance is generally high, but few large-scale studies have investigated the effects experienced in 7T MRI systems, especially considering peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) and caregiving. Purpose: To evaluate the quantity, the intensity, and subjective experiences from short-term effects, focusing on the levels of co

Scandinavian trade unions’ guidelines regarding nurses’ use of social media: a Fairclough-inspired critical discourse analysis

Introduction: Social media provides nurses with tools to share information, debate healthcare policy and practice issues, and engage in interpersonal interactions. Historically, also in Scandinavia, nurses’ trade unions have taken the lead in defining nursing as a profession and supporting nurses in ‘conducting good nursing’. However, it is unexplored how trade unions guide nurses in social media

Progress in ab initio QM/MM free-energy simulations of electrostatic energies in proteins : accelerated QM/MM studies of pKa, redox reactions and solvation free energies

Hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) approaches have been used to provide a general scheme for chemical reactions in proteins. However, such approaches still present a major challenge to computational chemists, not only because of the need for very large computer time in order to evaluate the QM energy but also because of the need for proper computational sampling. This review fo

Sick Leave After Surgery for Thumb Carpometacarpal Osteoarthritis : A Population-Based Study

Purpose: Patients undergoing surgery for thumb carpometacarpal (CMC1) osteoarthritis often require sick leave owing to postoperative immobilization, pain, and decreased function. Our goal was to evaluate the amount of sick leave after surgery for 2 common CMC1 arthroplasty procedures. Methods: Using registry data from the Skåne region of southern Sweden, cross-linked with employment data showing p

Intermediate care in caring for dementia, the point of view of general practitioners : A key informant survey across Europe

Background: Intermediate care is often defined as healthcare occurring somewhere between traditional primary (community) and secondary (hospital) care settings. High quality intermediate care is important in dementia, may prevent caregiver burnout and also lead to optimal care for people with dementia. However, very little is known about the point of intermediate care for persons with dementia in

On the Incentives to Shift to Low-Carbon Freight Transport

The transport sector accounts for approximately 20% of EU-27 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and 27% of U.S. GHG emissions. With the Kyoto Protocol, Sweden and several other nations have agreed to reduce these emissions. Often, solutions that involve consolidating freight and moving it to more carbon-efficient transport technologies are advocated as the most advantageous. For such initiatives the

UnderhållsskylFor a long time, there was no regulation of the indemnity liability for dam failures in Sweden. In July 1997 a new law brought a change to this and clarified which liable entity was strictly liable for damages. The entity responsible for maintaining the dam bears a strict liability for all damages arising downstream as a consequence of a dam failure according to chapter 11 paragraph 18 in the Swe

Flera utredningar har Today, sexist advertisement is not illegal in Sweden. MD has decided that MFL is not applicable on that kind of advertising. Instead, the industry regulates itself through the RO foundations supervision. They use certain criteria established by the ICC and ERK to determine whether advertisement is sexist or not. Although, this system might be seen as ineffective since RO has no right to issue sanc

När regler om principalansvar intoThe Swedish regulation of vicarious liability entered into force in 1972, when a new Liability for Damages Act was passed by the parliament. Prior to this point in time, a concept of vicarious liability had developed in Swedish case law, but the scope of such liability had been very limited. In most cases, an employer would not have been held responsible for tortious acts caused by his employees i

Improved Water Management in Rural Jordanian Communities Hosting Refugees

This research set out to examine if participation can improve the management of water resources in rural Jordanian communities. Jordan is second most resource-scare country in the world, and is facing significant increase in demand for water as a result of the arrivals of refugees from the Syrian conflict. The purpose of this work is to delineate the role of participation as a facilitator for impr

‘What Local People?’ : the establishment of a mine in Kallak, Jokkmokk, understood from a stakeholder recognition framework

Global exploration and production of minerals is increasingly located in areas populated by indigenous people. Conflicts that arise between multinational corporations and local activists and/or indigenous people are widespread while the understanding of such issues are still lacking. The Swedish government encouraging an expanding mining industry have caused great resistance, particularly due to t
