A study related to the development and characterization of a new gene delivery system was performed. The approach consists in both the pre-condensation of plasmid DNA with an arginine-based cationic surfactant, arginine-N-lauroyl amide dihydrochloride (ALA), which was found not to be toxic, and the incorporation of the blood protein transferrin (Tf) into the formulations. Two cationic liposome form

Popular Abstract in Swedish Genom observationer och experiment kan man konstruera modeller för att beskriva otaliga fenomen och aspekter av det universum vi lever i. Den huvudsakliga ingrediensen i en dylik modell är ofta en partiell differentialekvation. Sådana ekvationer kan beskriva så vitt skilda fenomen som t.ex. hur galaxer bildas, hur luftflöden transporteras i atmosfären, hur kemikalier reThis thesis is based on five papers, which all analyse different aspects of splitting schemes when applied to nonlinear parabolic problems. These numerical methods are frequently used when a problem has a natural decomposition into two or more parts, as the computational cost may then be significantly decreased compared to other methods. There are two prominent themes in the thesis; the first co

We construct a nodal method for a two-dimensional absorption-diffusion problem. The method gives rise to a seven point stencil for which the truncation error analysis shows an accuracy of at least O(Δ2), where Δ is a uniform mesh parameter. We devise a numerical method which constructs a matrix whose entries are amplified according to contributions from each of the nodes in a rectangular domain. N

The paper describes some problems that appear in the implementation of a computer control system in a wastewater treatment plant. The problems are related to the control authority of the actuators, the influence of the process design on the controller design, or the disturbance pattern. Some experience from two full scale activated sludge plants in Sweden are discussed.

We study Hamming versions of two classical clustering problems. The Hamming radius p-clustering problem (HRC) for a set S of k binary strings, each of length n, is to find p binary strings of length n that minimize the maximum Hamming distance between a string in S and the closest of the p strings; this minimum value is termed the p-radius of S and is denoted by varrho. The related Hamming diamete

Results on the global existence of classical solutions for quasilinear parabolic equations in bounded domains with homogeneous Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions are presented. Besides quasilinear parabolic equations, the method is also applicable to some weakly-coupled reaction-diffusion systems and to elliptic equations with nonlinear dynamic boundary conditions.

We prove new existence and uniqueness results for weak solutions to non-homogeneous initial-boundary value problems for parabolic equations modeled on the evolution of the p-Laplacian.

This thesis is concerned with the design of efficient parallel algorithms for some optimization graph problems. A subset S of vertices or edges in a graph G is said to be maximum with respect to a property if, among all the subsets of G having this property, S is one having the largest cardinality. Set S is said to be maximal with respect to a property, if it is not a proper subset of another set

Let w be a word in k variables. For a finite nilpotent group G, a conjecture of Amit states that Nw(1) ≥ | G| k-1, where for g∈ G, the quantity Nw(g) is the number of k-tuples (g1, … , gk) ∈ G(k) such that w(g1, … , gk) = g. Currently, this conjecture is known to be true for groups of nilpotency class 2. Here we consider a generalized version of Amit’s conjecture, which states that Nw(g) ≥ | G| k-
