Accurate prosthesis classification is critical for total joint arthroplasty surveillance and assessment of comparative effectiveness. Historically, prosthesis classification was based solely on the names of the prosthesis manufacturers. As a result, prosthesis designs changed without corresponding name changes, and other prostheses' names changed over time without substantial design modifications.

The Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 started as a Swedish initiative in 1996 leading to the UN declaration 1999 followed by the WHO launch 2000. A ten year multidisciplinary and global endeavor moving musculoskeletal conditions onto the research and health agenda is now recognized. Some lessons learned during the journey are presented.
Patients undergoing arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM) are at increased risk of knee osteoarthritis (OA). Meniscal damage and/or surgery may alter knee joint loading to increase OA risk. We investigated changes in knee joint loading following medial APM surgery, compared with the contra-lateral leg.
