The invisible leash : when human brands hijack corporate brands' consumer relationships

Purpose: Corporate brands increasingly use influential, high reach human brands (e.g. influencers, celebrities), who have strong parasocial relationships with their followers and audiences, to promote their offerings. However, despite emerging understanding of the benefits arising from human brand-based campaigns, knowledge about their potentially negative effects on the corporate brand remains li

Utilization of Wild Fruit in Mozambique – Drying of Vangueria infausta (African medlar)

Popular Abstract in English In Mozambique, many wild fruit species occur naturally in forest environments. Most of the wild fruits are consumed fresh because of their short shelf-life when ripe. Forests play an important role in rural communities as a source of food and medicinal and social/cultural services and also provide a source of income when fruits are sold at local markets. Some parts of MVangueria infausta (African medlar) is a wild fruit found in southern and central Mozambique. The ripe fruit has a leathery skin enclosing three to five seeds embedded in a soft pulp that tastes like apple. It plays an important role in the diet of the rural population and has the potential for commercial use. The fruit is mostly eaten fresh, and sometimes mixed with porridges, but in some parts

The Political Ecology of the Alternative für Deutschland: Defending Fossil Capitalism in the Era of Climate Crisis

As global average temperatures are rising, the populist radical right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has ramped up its anti-climate but pro environmental protection politics. As this focus is nascent, the question of how and for whom does the political ecology of the AfD articulates meaning has yet received little attention. My analysis of seven semi-structured interviews with party membe

The Crisis Paradox - Perceptions of organizational crises in between threats and opportunities

This paper identifies and analyzes paradoxes in perception of organizational crisis. Based on the observation of conflicting views on organizational crises that tend to polarize towards either threats or opportunities, we explore contradictions and interrelations in the concept. Our purpose is to reveal ambivalences and dynamics between the paradoxical pairs and thus contribute to a more reflexive

Building What? The Challenge of Introducing Alternative Building Practices into the Aqaba Built Environment

For cities growing in conditions of extreme heat and aridity, adapting their building stock to reflect these environmental challenges demands a social as well as technical shift. Aqaba in southern Jordan is embarking on this process. Extremely poor building thermal performance coupled with a lack of public understanding of basic energy principles is contributing to social and economic stress in Aq

From quality control to TQM, service quality and service sciences : a 30-year review of TQM literature

Purpose: This paper aims to review total quality management (TQM) literature in the past three decades to identify the quality related key terms, to analyse their linkage among the identified key terms and their developmental trends. Design/methodology/approach: Bibliometric and statistical methods are used to analyse article titles published in the Total Quality and Business Excellence journal du

Alla är överens, men ingen tar ansvar? En kvalitativ undersökning om ansvar gällande långsiktiga boenden för barnfamiljer i hemlöshet

This study investigates how representatives from the Swedish Social Service and the Sweden City missions describe their responsibility concerning long-term housing for families in structural homelessness. The aim is also to have the representatives’ perspectives on how the situation for the target group can be improved. Even though the research concerning structural homelessness is well examined,

Methane and carbon dioxide fluxes over a lake : Comparison between eddy covariance, floating chambers and boundary layer method

Freshwaters bring a notable contribution to the global carbon budget by emitting both carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) to the atmosphere. Global estimates of freshwater emissions traditionally use a wind-speed-based gas transfer velocity, kCC (introduced by Cole and Caraco, 1998), for calculating diffusive flux with the boundary layer method (BLM). We compared CH4 and CO2 fluxes from BLM wit

Results of a phase I/II study of ocrelizumab, a fully humanized anti-CD20 mAb, in patients with relapsed/refractory follicular lymphoma

Background: Ocrelizumab is a humanized anti-CD20 antibody with increased antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity compared with rituximab. This phase I/II study evaluated its safety and efficacy in patients with relapsed/refractory follicular lymphoma (FL) after prior rituximab therapy. Design and methods: Forty-seven patients were treated in three dose cohorts and received eight infusions every 3

Ecklesiologi efter Sekt och Sekularitet : Arne Rasmussons radikalreformatoriska teologi i dialog med Ernst Troeltschs kyrka-sekt typologi

The purpose of this thesis was to create a dialogue between the church-sect typology of Ernst Troeltsch and the Radical Reformation theology of Arne Rasmusson. The hypothesis was that Rasmusson has good reasons to take the dialogue with Troeltsch more seriously; that the perspective of Troeltsch can help to clarify aspects of Rasmusson’s theology and show tendencies of inconsistency in it, and the

The bone morphogenetic proteins antagonist noggin inhibits membranous ossification

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are expressed and secreted during fracture repair. Although they are likely to be required for this process, little is known about their physiological role in bone regeneration. Noggin is a protein that specifically binds and inactivates several BMPs, It plays fundamental roles during early embryonal development and limb morphogenesis by this BMP-inactivating act

Biochemical and Physiological Characterization of Nonsymbiotic Plant Hemoglobins

Popular Abstract in English People normally associate hemoglobin with blood. It is true that the iron in the center of the hemoglobin molecule makes it excellent at carrying oxygen in the bloodstream from the lungs to every part of the body. However, seventy five years ago a hemoglobin was found in a plant. And plants do not have blood. So what is hemoglobin doing in plants? What are its functionsHemoglobins (Hb) are usually associated with blood in humans. However, these proteins are widely distributed among living organisms. In plants the most known group are the leghemoglobins. Still, other Hbs that not participate in symbiosis are also found. They are known as nonsymbiotic Hbs (nsHbs). NsHbs are divided into class-1 and class-2. In this thesis three nsHbs from sugar beet (BvHb1-1, BvHb

Development of an Ultrasensitive Capacitive DNA-sensor: A promising tool towards microbial diagnostics

Popular Abstract in English A handful of diseases-causing pathogenic microorganisms claim millions of lives worldwide each year, mainly due to limited diagnostic capabilities. The lack of simple, cost-effective, sensitive and rapid on-site diagnostic tools lead to delays in the diagnoses with a subsequent lag in treatment, which in turn can result in serious complications or even loss of lives. Fast and sensitive detection of pathogenic microbial cells is a highly important task in medical diagnostics, environmental analysis and evaluation of food safety. Accordingly, the idea of microorganism identification by the recognition of specific DNA sequence using electrochemical technique is one of the leading researches in the development of diagnostic devices. In other words, it should only

High Affinity Antibodies to Plasmodium falciparum Merozoite Antigens Are Associated with Protection from Malaria

Background: Malaria kills almost 1 million people every year, but the mechanisms behind protective immunity against the disease are still largely unknown. Methodology/Principal Findings: In this study, surface plasmon resonance technology was used to evaluate the affinity (measured as kd) of naturally acquired antibodies to the Plasmodium falciparum antigens MSP2 and AMA1. Antibodies in serum samp
