Kluth et al. identify a significant enrichment of cilia-annotated genes that are differentially expressed in pancreatic islets of obese mice. Many of the genes were also linked to human T2D, suggesting that dysregulation of cilia-associated genes may participate in T2D risk.

This book provides the first comprehensive discussion of conflicts between legal bases in EU law. It fills an important gap in the existing literature on the choice of legal basis in EU law by analysing the structure of legal bases and the resulting legal basis litigation in the European Union, thus identifying areas of conflict produced by overlapping competences, divergent inter-institutional in

The article is a description and evaluation of extensive and intensive field survey as a means of locating sites from the bronze and early iron ages in the cultivated landscape of southern Sweden. It includes a discussion of other field survey efforts and recommendations about survey technique. Surface survey in December proved to be a fairly successful means of locating bronze age remains in clay

Systematic variational calculations using the multi-configuration Hartree-Fock method for Li are reported. For 1 s 2 2 s 2 S of Li, an nl -expansion is attempted in configuration space, similar to a partial wave expansion for helium-like systems. The total energy, ionization energy, specific mass shift, and hyperfine contact term are calculated with respect to increasing size of the configuration

Using two epochs of observations with HST/WFPC2 we obtain the stellar proper motions for all stars in the field. The proper motion are used to separate the bulge from the cluster stars. The stellar sequences in the resulting colour-magnitude diagram (CMD) are better defined than in any previously published CMD. Using a-enhanced stellar isochrones we find NGC 6528 to have a probable age of 11 +/- 2

The electron structure of several highly charged ions, belonging to the Mg, Ne, Mn, Fe, Co, Ga and Ge isoelectronic sequences, has been experimentally studied by means of two techniques, beam-foil spectroscopy, BFS, and the spectroscopy of laser-produced plasmas, LPP. The investigations were carried out at Lund University, LU, in 1989-90 and at the China Institute of Atomic Energy, CIAE, Beijing,

AIM: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the radiosensitivity of the prostate cancer cell lines LNCaP, DU145, and PC3 when irradiated with beta particles emitted from (177)Lu, and to compare the effect with irradiation using alpha particles or gamma rays.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cells were irradiated with beta particles emitted from (177)Lu, alpha particles from (241)Am, or gamma ray

Metal ion catalyzed autoxidation of of aqueous sulfur dioxide in atmospheric droplets is an important pathway for the total oxidation of sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere and for formation of acid rain. This paper presents a summary of the results obtained for the Mn(II/III) catalyzed oxidation of SO2(aq).

The BRAHMS collaboration has measured transverse momentum spectra of pions, kaons, protons, and antiprotons at rapidities 0 and 3 for Cu+Cu collisions at sNN=200 GeV. As the collisions become more central the collective radial flow increases while the temperature of kinetic freeze-out decreases. The temperature is lower and the radial flow weaker at forward rapidity. Pion and kaon yields with tran

We have performed extensive multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock calculations and second-order many-body perturbation calculations for F-like ions with Z = 24-30. Energy levels and transition rates for electric dipole (E1), electric-quadrupole (E2), electric-octupole (E3), magnetic dipole (M1), and magnetic-quadrupole (M2) transitions, as well as radiative lifetimes, are provided for the lowest 2

AIMS: To examine the relationships of two screening instruments recently developed for assessment of exhaustion disorder (ED) with some other well-known inventories intended to assess ED-related concepts and self-reports of job demands, job control, job support, private life stressors, and personality factors.METHODS: A cross-sectional population sample ( n = 1355) completed: the Karolinska Exhaus

Sustained international diplomatic efforts culminated in the signing of the Paris Climate Agreement by 196 countries in December 2015. This paper provides an overview of the key provisions of the agreement that are most relevant to the tourism sector: much strengthened and world-wide participation in greenhouse gas emission reduction ambitions, an enduring framework for increased ambitions over ti

Forests used for timber production provide essential ecosystem services to society, as well as potential breeding habitat for bird communities. In southern Sweden, 90% of productive forest land is used for timber production and stands dominated by Norway spruce (Picea abies) constitute approximately 40% of the forested area. Due to their homogeneous structure, these spruce production forests are o

Solar cells made from inorganic-organic perovskites have gradually approached market requirements as their efficiency and stability have improved tremendously in recent years. Planar low-temperature processed perovskite solar cells are advantageous for possible large-scale production but are more prone to exhibiting photocurrent hysteresis, especially in the regular n-i-p structure. Here, a system

Linkage between behavioral states and neural activity is one of the most important challenges in neuroscience. The network activity patterns in the awake resting state and in the actively behaving state in rodents are not well understood, and a better tool for differentiating these states can provide insights on healthy brain functions and its alteration with disease. Therefore, we simultaneously

In the interaction between two ecologically-associated species, the population structure of one species may affect the population structure of the other. Here, we examine the population structures of the aphid Metopeurum fuscoviride, a specialist on tansy Tanacetum vulgare, and its specialist primary hymenopterous parasitoid Lysiphlebus hirticornis, both of which are characterized by multivoltine

Parkinson´s disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the nigral dopaminergic system. Treatment of disease symptoms using L-DOPA frequently induces side effects such as L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia. New therapeutic approaches are aimed at preventing neurodegeneration or restoring the dopaminergic system by fetal dopaminergic transplants. In this thesis work, we evaluated the neuroprot
