Barne

Whereas ventricular filling has been extensively studied and debated, atrial filling is less well characterized. Therefore, the aim of this study was to quantify atrial filling secured during ventricular diastole and systole, and to investigate whether atrial filling depends on heart rate (HR) and total heart volume (THV).

Milk fat is high in saturated fatty acids (SFA) and high intakes of SFA are associated with cardiovascular diseases. The aim of the present study was to prospectively evaluate the potential risk of a first-ever acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in relation to the estimated milk-fat intake, reflected as the proportions of pentadecanoic acid (15: 0) and heptadecanoic acid (17: 0) in serum lipid este

The length of the polymorphic CAG repeat in the N-terminal of the androgen receptor (AR) gene is inversely correlated with the transactivation function of the AR. Some studies have indicated that short CAG repeats are related to higher risk of prostate cancer. We performed a case-control study to investigate relations between CAG repeat length and prostate cancer risk, tumour grade, tumour stage,

The web of relationships between wellbeing and the environments in which people live has long been recognized. However, relatively little research has been conducted about end-of-life surroundings from the perspective of the dying person. In this study, we investigate which aspects of their surroundings are particularly meaningful for the people inhabiting them in the last phases of life, based on

BACKGROUND: Alterations of the charge-selective properties of the glomerular capillary wall are important constituents of the pathogenesis of many glomerular diseases. Thus, differences in the degree of such changes could be of help in understanding the mechanisms governing the transport of macromolecules across the glomerular capillary wall.METHODS: The ratio between urine concentrations of neutr

IGH gene rearrangement analysis by PCR is the widely accepted tool to determine clonality of B-cell lymphoid proliferations on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue, but the results are often unsatisfying in terms of sensitivity. This is mainly due to poor quality DNA because of degradation and hence difficulties to amplify products of the needed length. Therefore, most previous attempts to det
