The gene for beta-microseminoprotein MSMB has been studied by DNA hybridization and molecular cloning techniques. Comparative analysis of restriction endonuclease digests of the cloned gene and of leukocyte DNA strongly suggested that the gene is present in a single copy in the haploid human genome. By Southern blot analysis of DNA from somatic cell hybrids, the gene was assigned to chromosome 10.

Objective: To examine reliability and validity of the Swedish version of the Self-Efficacy for Rehabilitation (SER) outcome scale. Methods: One-hundred and ninety-eight inpatients (mean age 69 years) who underwent a primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) due to knee osteoarthritis participated. They responded pre- and postoperatively to the SER outcome scale, and preoperatively to the Hospital Anxi

Starch microspheres were produced by emulsification of a starch dispersion in an aqueous polyethylene glycol (PEG) solution. Crystalline/ordered structure was formed within these starch droplets during incubation at 6 °C for 25 h followed by incubation at 37 °C for 28 h. After incubation at 37 °C the crystalline structure in the samples was of type B. The crystallization process of microspheres wa

A new simple, reproducible and sensitive ELISA that uses trichloroacetic acid (TCA) for the coating of lipooligosaccharide (LOS), smooth lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or lipid A to the solid phase has been developed. The experimental parameters (temperature of coating, time of coating, antigen concentration and TCA concentration) were evaluated by a complete factorial design (24). As a result of the ev

We report the first discovery since the 1970s of a new extant family (Aenigmatineidae fam.n.) of homoneurous moths, based on the small Aenigmatinea glatzella sp.n. from Kangaroo Island off southern Australia. It exhibits a combination of extraordinary anatomical characters, and, unlike most homoneurous moths, its larva is a conifer-feeder (stem mining in Callitris, Cupressaceae). While the adult's

The concrete discs with water-cement ratios 0.4 and 0.7 were preconditioned at their early age by drying at 50`C for 2 to 4 days, followed by storage in a Laboratory atmosphere till an age of 28 or S6 days. The moisture distributions in the specimens were determined by measuring relative humidity and capillary saturation degree, and the air permeability was determined according to the Cembureau me

While the terms soft power, public diplomacy (PD) and nation brands have cemented their place in academic discourse during the early 21st century, the evaluation of these activities has not been given anywhere near the same level of attention. When describing how campaigns are evaluated, scholars tend to make assumptions based on the goals or outputs of an initiative rather than on the basis of re

A titanium implant in which a conduit is gradually filled with ingrowing bone (the Bone Harvest Chamber) has been modified to allow continuous local treatment of the conduit tissue with biochemical agents. Implants were inserted bilaterally in rabbit tibiae. The tissue content of the bone ingrowth conduits was studied with histology, 99mTc-MDP scintimetry and measurements of total calcium content.

This paper explores design students’ proposals for a redesign of the interior of a room of silence at the SUS hospital in Malmö. Reflection and existential meaning-making are discussed in relation to the material culture of design, and more specifically in relation to four different themes found among the students’ proposals: nature as common symbolic framework and salutary force; lighting creatin

Multiblock copoly(arylene ether sulfone)s with different block lengths and ionic contents are tailored for highly stable and proton conducting electrolyte membranes. Two series of fully aromatic copolymers are prepared by coupling reactions between non-sulfonated hydrophobic precursor blocks and highly sulfonated hydrophilic precursor blocks containing either fully disulfonated diarylsulfone or fu

Aims The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young planned biomarker discovery studies on longitudinal samples for persistent confirmed islet cell autoantibodies and type 1 diabetes using dietary biomarkers, metabolomics, microbiome/viral metagenomics and gene expression. Methods This article describes the details of planning The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young biomar

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a major cause of sudden cardiac death in the young. Based on previous reports of functional abnormalities in not only coronary but also peripheral vessels in adults with HCM, we aimed to assess both peripheral vascular and myocardial diastolic function in young individuals with early stage of HCM and in individuals at risk for HCM. Children, adolescents and you

A new parameterization of sticking efficiency for aggregation of ice crystals onto snow and graupel is presented. This parameter plays a crucial role for the formation of ice precipitation and for electrification processes. The parameterization is intended to be used in atmospheric models simulating the aggregation of ice particles in glaciated clouds. It should improve the ability to forecast sno

Størling and colleagues hypothesise in this issue (Diabetologia DOI: 10.1007/s00125-013-3045-3 ) that post-translational modification (PTM) of autoantigens might create tissue-specific neo-epitopes that could trigger type 1 diabetes. Data on PTM of islet autoantigens are scarce and readers should not believe that the PTM hypothesis is supported by strong experimental evidence. The proposed genetic
