A robust Multi-Band Water Index (MBWI) for automated extraction of surface water from Landsat 8 OLI imagery

Surface water is vital resources for terrestrial life, while the rapid development of urbanization results in diverse changes in sizes, amounts, and quality of surface water. To accurately extract surface water from remote sensing imagery is very important for water environment conservations and water resource management. In this study, a new Multi-Band Water Index (MBWI) for Landsat 8 Operational

Regional Forebrain Noradrenalin Release in Response to Focal and Generalized Seizures Induced by Hippocampal Kindling Stimulation

In vivo microdialysis was used to monitor noradrenalin (NA) release in the rat hippocampus, sensorimotor cortex and amygdala in response to seizures induced by electrical kindling stimulation in the hippocampus. Generalized seizures increased NA output in the hippocampus five-fold above baseline level (as assessed with 2-min sampling periods). The peak value was seen 2 - 4 min after onset of seizu

The 2000–2017 drought risk assessment of the western and southwestern basins in Iran

The study investigates the relationship between drought and vegetation variations in three main basins of western and southwestern of Iran, using the comprehensive approach of time-series analysis, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), and anomaly calculation. A total of 30 ground stations’ daily meteorological data and the MODIS 16-day composite NDVI products (2000–2017) were used in this case.

Pre- and Postnatal Maturation are Important for Fentanyl Exposure in Preterm and Term Newborns : A Pooled Population Pharmacokinetic Study

Background and Objective: Fentanyl is an opioid commonly used to prevent and treat severe pain in neonates; however, its use is off label and mostly based on bodyweight. Given the limited pharmacokinetic information across the entire neonatal age range, we characterized the pharmacokinetics of fentanyl across preterm and term neonates to individualize dosing. Methods: We pooled data from two previ

A scoping review of public building accessibility

Background: The built environment needs to be designed so that all people can participate in the activities they want and need to do. Yet, accessibility is difficult to put into practice, and accessibility issues tend to be overlooked in the building and planning processes. Objectives: The aim of this scoping review was to summarize the research front in the area of accessibility to public buildin

In-depth analysis of protein inference algorithms using multiple search engines and well-defined metrics

In mass spectrometry-based shotgun proteomics, protein identifications are usually the desired result. However, most of the analytical methods are based on the identification of reliable peptides and not the direct identification of intact proteins. Thus, assembling peptides identified from tandem mass spectra into a list of proteins, referred to as protein inference, is a critical step in proteom

CTCs Detection and Whole-exome Sequencing Might Be Used to Differentiate Benign and Malignant Pulmonary Nodules

Background and objective Low-density computed tomography (LDCT) improved early lung cancer diagnosis but introduces an excess of false-positive pulmonary nodules data. Hence, accurate diagnosis of early-stage lung cancer remains challenging. The purpose of the study was to assess the feasibility of using circulating tumour cells (CTCs) to differentiate malignant from benign pulmonary nodules. Mate

Demineralized allogeneic bone matrix for cartilage repair

We tested the chondrogenic potential of demineralized allogeneic bone matrix (DABM) in the repair of osteochondral defects. In 42 adult rabbits, a 5-mm2 or 15-mm2 defect was created bilaterally in the intercondylar groove of distal femur. DABM was inserted directly in 37 defects, whereas in 35 it was inserted after previous placement in muscle for 4, 16, or 19 days. Another 12 defects were left em

Welfare-state selectivity, universality, and social trust in Europe, 2002–2019 : Bringing deservingness back in

Social trust is a moral resource with a normatively highly desirable pay-off. Previous research argues that universal welfare state programmes ‘make’ social trust whereas means-testing programmes ‘break’ it. Despite its important implications for welfare-state design, comparative longitudinal evidence for this hypothesis is scarce. To test whether within-country changes in social trust are associa

Platelet transfusion practice in the intensive care unit : the Nine-I international platelet transfusion survey

BACKGROUND: Platelet transfusions are frequent in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), either as prophylaxis against bleeding complications or as treatment for bleeding. The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine guidelines for ICU patients generally recommend not using prophylactic platelet transfusions unless the platelet count falls below 10 × 10 9 cells/L in non-bleeding patients and make no re

Rättssäkerhet med hjärtat : vad är kvalité inom äldreomsorgens biståndshandläggning

During the last 10 years Sweden's municipalities have changed their eldercare organisation. From a traditional organisation with an executive official of aid who even had the staff responsibility in the execution to a separate or specialized organization where the official only have the exercise of public authority. The evaluators of aid (biståndsbedömare) have the title executive officials (b

Om det begångna brottet har minst ett års fängelse i straffskalan eller om socialtjänsten begär det skDuring the last few years approximately 19 000 children below the age of 15 have been suspected for committing an offence. However there is no comprehensive statistics when children below the age of 15 cannot be charged for the offence. The police must report all children who are suspected for committing a crime to the local social services. If the minimum sentence for the committed crime is one y

Effect of Food Intake on Vortex Formation Time as a Measurement of Diastolic Left Ventricular Function

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess if vortex formation time (VFT) as a measurement of left ventricular (LV) diastolic function is affected by food intake and related to age and sex. Methods: Healthy participants were divided into two age groups: younger (median age: 25 years) and older (median age: 68 years). Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) examinations were performed duri

Monitoring and moderating extreme indoor temperatures in low-income urban communities

Climate change presents significant threats to human health, especially for low-income urban communities in the Global South. Despite numerous studies of heat stress, surprisingly little is known about the temperatures actually encountered by people in their homes, or the benefits of affordable adaptations. This paper examines indoor air temperature measurements gathered from 47 living rooms withi
