What Yas says about the Master's in Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

Yas from IranWhy did you choose this programme? Why in Sweden? "I chose this programme because I've always been interested in mixing art and technology, specifically immersive and interactive art. With a background in computer science, I knew that Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality were kind of ways to be creative using technology. It also has more room for the arts than pure computer science.

What Kata says about the Master's in International Development and Management (LUMID)

Kata Molnar from Hungary, alumna of the programme  How did you find out about this programme?“I did a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Media studies in Hungary. Upon graduation, I decided to try a few different things: I completed a Global Studies programme at a Danish folk high school, back home I volunteered with a green NGO in poor rural communities, and then I moved to Indonesia on a cul

A cyber-physical systems approach for controlling autonomous mobile manipulators

Cognitive robots have started to find their way into manufacturing halls. However, the full potential of these robots can only be exploited through an integration into the automation pyramid so that the system is able to communicate with the manufacturing execution system (MES). Integrating the robot with the MES allows the robot to get access to manufacturing environment and process data so that Cognitive robots have started to find their way into manufacturing halls. Glutathione turnover in human cell lines in the presence of agents with glutathione influencing potential with and without acivicin inhibition of gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase.

Background: We have previously shown that there were great discrepancies between different agents regarding their glutathione stimulating potential and that agents with mainly oxidative effects did not increase concentrations of glutathione in human cell cultures, in contrast to other thiol reactive agents. In order to evaluate whether increased glutathione degradation might be one reason for thes

Treatment with apo B peptide vaccines inhibits atherosclerosis in human apo B-100 transgenic mice without inducing an increase in peptide-specific antibodies.

Objectives. Autoantibodies to apolipoprotein (apo) B-100 peptides are present in human plasma and have been shown to be associated with decreased cardiovascular risk. The present study aimed to determine if apo B-100 peptide vaccines are atheroprotective in mice expressing human apo B-100 and if the effectiveness of the vaccines is influenced by the level of pre-existing peptide-specific autoantib

Calcium activates purified human TRPA1 with and without its N-terminal ankyrin repeat domain in the absence of calmodulin

Extracellular influx of calcium or release of calcium from intracellular stores have been shown to activate mammalian TRPA1 as well as to sensitize and desensitize TRPA1 electrophilic activation. Calcium binding sites on both intracellular N- and C-termini have been proposed. Here, we demonstrate based on Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and bilayer patch-clamp studies, a direct calmodulin

Human Embryonic Stem Cell-Derived Mesenchymal Stroma Cells (hES-MSCs) Engraft In Vivo and Support Hematopoiesis without Suppressing Immune Function: Implications for Off-The Shelf ES-MSC Therapies.

Mesenchymal stroma cells (MSCs) have a high potential for novel cell therapy approaches in clinical transplantation. Commonly used bone marrow-derived MSCs (BM-MSCs), however, have a restricted proliferative capacity and cultures are difficult to standardize. Recently developed human embryonic stem cell-derived mesenchymal stroma cells (hES-MSCs) might represent an alternative and unlimited source

Establishment of an immortalized human erythroid cell line sustaining differentiation potential without inducible gene expression system

Ex vivo manufactured red blood cells (RBC) generated from immortalized erythroid cell lines which can continuously grow are expected to become a significant alternative in future transfusion therapies. The ectopic expression of human papilloma virus (HPV) E6/E7 gene has successfully been employed to establish these cell lines. To induce differentiation and maturation of the immortalized cell lines

Molecular diagnostics of salmonella and campylobacter in human/animal fecal samples remain feasible after long-term sample storage without specific requirements

Rapid advances in the development of sequencing technologies, numbers of commercial providers and diminishing costs have made DNA-based identification and diagnostics increasingly accessible to doctors and laboratories, eliminating the need for local investments in expensive technology and training or hiring of skilled technicians. However, reliable and comparable molecular analyses of bacteria in

The structures of human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase with and without inhibitor reveal conformational flexibility in the inhibitor and substrate binding sites.

Inhibitors of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) have been suggested for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, autoimmune diseases, Plasmodium, and bacterial and fungal infections. Here we present the structures of N-terminally truncated (residues Met30-Arg396) DHODH in complex with two inhibitors: a brequinar analogue (6) and a novel inhibitor (a fenamic acid derivative) (7), as wel

Without Demand, the Swedish Sex Market Would Collapse: A Qualitative Analysis of Human trafficking for sexual purposes Factors

This study examines the challenges Sweden faces in implementing legislation against human trafficking for sexual purposes, analyzing the issue through conflict theory and feminist perspectives. Employing qualitative content analysis, the research identifies and categorizes causes such as demand, misogyny, inadequate legislation, and socioeconomic vulnerability. The primary research questions addre

Urban prosperity without growth? : sustainable city development with focus on human flourishing

The world is urbanising at an unprecedented rate. Cities are perceived to be potential solutions as well as causes of the many problems our society faces. On the one hand, cities are considered the driving forces of prosperity through innovation, wealth creation and growth. On the other hand, cities are perceived to be the roots of urgent environmental and social issues. In fact, the very notion o

Do human rights exist without social rights?

This thesis is to introduce the international fora of social human rights, focusing on the social security system of Finland. To demonstrate the complexity of the subject, analyses are made in solidarity, nature of norms and social dialogue. Regardless of the efforts of the International Labour Organization to stabilize social security matters by different Conventions and Covenants, at the nation

Cardiovascular and respiratory responses to apneas with and without face immersion in exercising humans.

The effect of the diving response on alveolar gas exchange was investigated in 15 subjects. During steady-state exercise (80 W) on a cycle ergometer, the subjects performed 40-s apneas in air and 40-s apneas with face immersion in cold (10°C) water. Heart rate decreased and blood pressure increased during apneas, and the responses were augmented by face immersion. Oxygen uptake from the lungs decr
