In Situ Imaging of Ferroelastic Domain Dynamics in CsPbBr3Perovskite Nanowires by Nanofocused Scanning X-ray Diffraction

The interest in metal halide perovskites has grown as impressive results have been shown in solar cells, light emitting devices, and scintillators, but this class of materials have a complex crystal structure that is only partially understood. In particular, the dynamics of the nanoscale ferroelastic domains in metal halide perovskites remains difficult to study. An ideal in situ imaging method fo

Value-driven purchasing of kitchen cabinets in industrialised housing

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to hypothesize that value-driven purchasing of customized kitchen cabinets is more profitable than market-driven purchasing in industrialised housing construction. The hypothesis is examined through a case study of kitchen carpentry at one of the Sweden's largest producers of industrialised prefabricated multi-storey housing. By comparing characteristics of m

Performance of Smoothing Methods for Reconstructing NDVI Time-Series and Estimating Vegetation Phenology from MODIS Data

Many time-series smoothing methods can be used for reducing noise and extracting plant phenological parameters from remotely-sensed data, but there is still no conclusive evidence in favor of one method over others. Here we use moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) derived normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) to investigate five smoothing methods: Savitzky-Golay fitting (S

Think H2O! – An educational partnership to raise students’ awareness of the water challenges

Think H2O! – An educational partnership to raise students’ awareness of the water challenges Introduction: To secure future access to safe water is one of the most important sustainability challenges, on local and global level. Water is a cause of conflict and cooperation in an increasingly complex world. This crucial challenge requires a transdisciplinary approach (Segalàs & Tejedor, 2013) a

Vegetation change on mountaintops in northern Sweden : Stable vascular-plant but reordering of lichen and bryophyte communities

Alpine ecosystems harbor remarkably diverse and distinct plant communities that are characteristically limited to harsh, and cold climatic conditions. As a result of thermal limitation to species occurrence, mountainous ecosystems are considered to be particularly sensitive to climate change. Our understanding of the impact of climate change is mainly based on vascular plants however, whereas cryp

Magnifying the differences : Investigating variability in Dorset Paleo-Inuit organic material culture using microscopic analysis

Arctic archaeologists generally accept that Dorset Paleo-Inuit (Tuniit) (c. 800 BC-1300 AD) toolkits exhibit high levels of typological uniformity across Arctic Canada and Greenland. This understanding implies that the artifacts were likely produced according to a standardized set of practices that were somehow ÷einforced over time and shared across the isolated sites and communities inhabiting th

The Biogeography of Adaptive Radiations and the Geographic Overlap of Sister Species

The biogeography of speciation and what can be learned about the past mode of speciation from current biogeography of sister species are recurrent problems in evolution. We used a trait- and individual-based, eco-evolutionary model to simulate adaptive radiations and recorded the geographical overlap of species during and after evolutionary branching (speciation). We compared the spatial overlap a

Malaria infections reinforce competitive asymmetry between two Ficedula flycatchers in a recent contact zone

Parasites may influence the outcome of interspecific competition between closely related host species through lower parasite virulence in the host with which they share the longer evolutionary history. We tested this idea by comparing the prevalence of avian malaria (Haemosporidia) lineages and their association with survival in pied and collared flycatchers (Ficedula hypoleuca and F. albicollis)

Phylogenetic Analysis Suggests That Habitat Filtering Is Structuring Marine Bacterial Communities Across the Globe.

The phylogenetic structure and community composition were analysed in an existing data set of marine bacterioplankton communities to elucidate the evolutionary and ecological processes dictating the assembly. The communities were sampled from coastal waters at nine locations distributed worldwide and were examined through the use of comprehensive clone libraries of 16S ribosomal RNA genes. The ana

Master’s thesis project 1(2) Investigating the tribological performance limits of FNC- treated GCI rotors under extreme braking conditions Background and motivation: Gray cast iron (GCI) remains the predominant material used in automotive brake rotors owing to its excellent thermal conductivity, vibration damping, and cost-effectiveness. However, the growing demand for higher braking performance a

A Space in a hill

Jag ville fokusera på den enskilda människan och beröra dennes interaktion med nThe focal point of this project is the interaction between the human individual and nature. It all started with a wish to study the role of architecture outside of urban contexts and bigger systems of urban strategy, segregation and densification. In order to do so, I chose to work with a location in nature that has made a particularly strong impression on me: the southern esker of Kåseberga. This
