Geom10 evaluation -2019c

Evaluation GEOM10-2019 ------------------- -- ---------------- Comment on the course evaluation of GEOMl0, fall 2019 14 on 15 students answered the course evaluation, which is thus representative. The course was held under this form for the third time. Overall the course got an excellent mark of 4.7 on the scale 1-5 (5 = top) (2017: 4.4; 2018: 4.3). The continuous improvements made to this course

AnechoicChamberAudioRecording

AnechoicChamberAudioRecording Recording Audio in the Anechoic Chamber By Susanne Schötz (comments or suggestions welcome susanne.schotz@med.lu.se) Turn on the mixing board (the power switch is to the right at the back of the mixer). Make sure that the ‘phantom power1’ is switched on, i.e. the button with 48V at the top left side of the mixer. A green led light indicates that it is on. If you just

A simple approach to nondecreasing paths

We present a simple reduction of the problem of nondecreasing paths (with minimal last edge weight) in a directed edge-weighted graph to a reachability problem in a directed unweighted graph. The reduction yields an alternative simple method of solving the single-source nondecreasing paths problem in almost linear time. If the edge weights are integers then our algorithm can be implemented in O((n

Monitoring environmental effects on farmland Lepidoptera : Does necessary sampling effort vary between different bio-geographic regions in Europe?

In agro-ecosystems, environmental monitoring is fundamental to detect and survey changes related to land use change and management practices. Butterflies and moths have often been suggested as suitable indicators for monitoring environmental effects on biodiversity in farmlands. Here, we estimated the required sample size and monitoring effort necessary to run a Lepidoptera survey in European farm

ArtOfAstrometryHobbs ART OF ASTROMETRY AND COMPUTATION David Hobbs Lund Observatory 1. Introduction Dynamical astronomy: deals with the determination of the kinematical and dynamical properties of stellar systems (mainly the MW) based on astrometric observations. • Kinematics describes the motion of bodies and systems of bodies without consideration of the forces that cause the motion. Stratigraphy, sedimentology and geophysical assessment of the early Silurian Halla and Klinteberg formations, Altajme core, Gotland, Sweden

The core was drilled in outcrop belt of the late Wenlock (Silurian) Klinteberg Formation as a result from an international drilling campaign between the Department of Geology at Lund University and Iowa University, USA. The coring continued to the top of the underlying Ordovician strata at a depth of ca 330 m. In this

Infrared dwarfs: Surface gravity sensitivity in H-band spectra

The age of the center of our galaxy is poorly known. Determining the ages of individual stars in the galactic center usually requires isochrone fitting on a Hertzsprung-Russel diagram, which in turn requires knowledge of the star’s fundamental parameters, such as surface gravity, which is often determined with spectroscopic methods; and metallicity, which affects the shape of the isochrone. This c

Effect of dronedarone vs. placebo on atrial fibrillation progression : a post hoc analysis from ATHENA trial

AIMS: This post hoc analysis of the ATHENA trial (NCT00174785) assessed the effect of dronedarone on the estimated burden of atrial fibrillation (AF)/atrial flutter (AFL) progression to presumed permanent AF/AFL, and regression to sinus rhythm (SR), compared with placebo. METHODS AND RESULTS: The burden of AF/AFL was estimated by a modified Rosendaal method using available electrocardiograms (ECG)

Differential effects of insulin-like growth factor-I on matrix and DNA synthesis in various regions and types of rabbit tendons

Tendon healing and integration of tendon grafts may be site or donor specific. To determine if differences exist in sensitivity to growth factors that have the potential to influence tendon repair, we compared the effect of recombinant human insulin-like growth factor-1 on various types of tendon segments. The dose response effects on proteoglycan, collagen, noncollagen protein, and DNA synthesis

Equilibrium sampling of freely dissolved alkylphenols into a thin film of 1-octanol supported on a hollow fiber membrane

A new negligible depletion extraction procedure was proposed for equilibrium sampling of 4-tert-octylphenol (OP) and 4-nonylphenol (NP) into a thin film of 1-octanol supported on a hollow fiber membrane. This thin liquid film extraction technique was directed at the determination of ( 1) freely dissolved concentrations, ( 2) distribution coefficients to 1-octanol (D-ow), and ( 3) binding to dissol

Lipase-mediated synthesis of six-membered cyclic carbonates from trimethylolpropane and dialkyl carbonates: Influence of medium engineering on reaction selectivity

Six-membered cyclic carbonates are potential monomers for aliphatic polycarbonates and polyurethanes in a process without using toxic phosgene and isocyanate. Lipase catalyzed transesterification of the polyol, trimethylolpropane (TMP) with dimethyl carbonate (DMC) or diethyl carbonate (DEC) followed by thermal cyclization was used for synthesis of six-membered cyclic carbonates with pendant hydro
