Knowledge Transfer from Interdisciplinary Research on Circular Economy to Academic Disciplines - a bibliometrics study

This study investigates the knowledge transfer from interdisciplinary research on Circular Economy (CE) to classical academic disciplines (ADs) such as Engineering, Economics, Geography, and Management. Despite the prolific publication of CE research in interdisciplinary journals, there is a notable discrepancy in its integration into traditional AD journals. Utilizing a bibliometric analysis of 2

Creating shared value (CSV), environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, and responsible business conduct (RBC) are three frameworks used to assess companies' sustainability impacts. As a relative newcomer, we assess the role of CSV developed in the strategic management studies of Porter and Kramer in light of recent developments in ESG and RBC. Each framework offers its own perspective

Remote Leadership - A Qualitative Study About Leaders' Experience of Leading Remotely

The main objective of this research study is to investigate how today’s leaders experience remote leadership, thus the following research question is examined: How does a leader make sense of remote leadership? The concept of remote leadership is investigated from a leader perspective using a qualitative method, interviewing 11 remote leaders in the private sector. The following categories have em

School Density and Inequality in Student Achievement

In the us, test score gaps by socioeconomic status and race increase with city size. This paper examines to what extent residential sorting on school quality can explain this fact. We combine 15 years of data on public elementary school studentsin North Carolina with geocoded school locations and proxy city size with a measure of school density in a local labor market. Assortative matching between

What does legitimacy mean within sustainable development? A scoping review

Achieving ambitious policy goals such as those enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals requires that several conditions be met. For example, it is widely believed that sustainable development policies should be legitimate, as the concept of legitimacy is frequently associated with sustainable development. Nevertheless, the notion of legitimacy is notoriously multifaceted and contested. In l

Water and the hygro-thermal characteristics of hardened concrete

Abstract in French L'AUTEUR RAPPELLE COMMENT L'EAU PARTICIPE AUX PHENOMENES QUI CONDUISENT A LA DETERIORATION DU BETON ET INDIQUE DES EXEMPLES DE CONDITIONS D'HUMIDITE CRITIQUE DANS LES PHENOMENES DE REACTIONS ALCALI-SILICE, D'EFFLORESCENCES, ET DE CORROSION. IL DECRIT LE COMPORTEMENT HYGROTHERMIQUE DU BETON A L'AIDE DES LOIS DE CONSERVATION DE L'ENERGIE ET DE LA MASSE. DANS LE CAS DU BETON DURCI,

Thermostable Xylanases from Rhodothermus marinus

Trots detta finns liv representerat i form av mikroorganismer som här har funnit sina ideala livsmAbstract Hot springs in Iceland can serve as sources of thermophilic, xylanolytic bacteria secreting very thermostable xylanolytic enzymes. The aerobic, thermophilic bacteria Rhodothermus marinus secretes multiple xylanases and xylosidases. One of the xylanases was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity and was characterized. The N-terminal sequence showed no homology with other xylanases. The p

Molecular evidence of a reed warbler x great reed warbler hybrid (Acrocephalus scirpaceus x A-arundinaceus) in Belgium

We report on the second case of a reed warbler x great reed warbler hybrid (Acrocephalus scirpaceus and A. arundinaceus). The bird was captured during a standardised ringing session in Belgium in autumn 1999, and fell between the parental species in all measurements. Molecular analyses of two microsatellite loci verified that the bird was a female that had a reed warbler father and a great reed wa

Nuclear Structure far off Stability - RISING Campaigns

Nuclear structure studies at CST attracted recently increased interest for the results of present activities as well as for the future project FAIR. A broad range of physics phenomena can be addressed by high-resolution in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy experiments with radioactive beams offered within the Rare Isotopes Spectroscopic INvestigation at GSI (RISING) project. It combined the EUROBALL Ge-

Parallel cloning, expression, purification and crystallization of human proteins for structural genomics

54 human genes were selected as test targets for parallel cloning, expression, purification and crystallization. Proteins from these genes were selected to have a molecular weight of between 14 and 50 kDa, not to have a high percentage of hydrophobic residues (i.e. more likely to be soluble) and to have no known crystal structures and were not known to be subunits of heterocomplexes. Four proteins

A new species of Pediobius (Hymenoptera : Eulophidae) from Epilachna (Coleoptera : Coccinellidae) in Costa Rica

A new and morphologically very distinct species of Pediobius from Costa Rica is described. The new species (P. nishidai) is unique among New World species of Pediobius in having the propodeum elongated and extended backwards (i.e. with an elongated nucha). The entire type series (15 females, two males) was reared from a single prepupa of Epilachna mexicana and it has been concluded that the new Pe

Antimicrobial activities of heparin-binding peptides.

Antimicrobial peptides are effector molecules of the innate immune system. We recently showed that the human antimicrobial peptides alpha-defensin and LL-37 bind to glycosaminoglycans (heparin and dermatan sulphate). Here we demonstrate the obverse, i.e. structural motifs associated with heparin affinity (cationicity, amphipaticity, and consensus regions) may confer antimicrobial properties to a g

Excess mortality after hospitalisation for vertebral fracture

An excess mortality is well described after vertebral fracture. Deaths are in part related to co-morbidity, but could also be due to the fracture event itself, either directly or indirectly. The aim of this study was to examine the quantum and pattern of mortality following vertebral fracture. We identified 16,051 men and women aged 50 years or more with a vertebral fracture that required hospital

Two-particle correlation functions in projectilelike emission experiments at very forward angles

Projectilelike fragment emission is studied via two-particle correlation functions, constructed from coincidence data detected at very forward angles (0.7degreesless than or equal totheta(lab)less than or equal to7degrees) in the E/A=44 and 77 MeV Ar-40+Al-27 reactions. The shape of the proton-proton correlation function is unexpected. Possible origins of this effect are discussed and a way to ree
