Tracing Sustainability in the Long Run: Genuine Savings Estimates 1850–2018

We introduce a new database of historical Genuine Savings (GS), an indicator of sustainable development promoted by theWorld Bank and widely used in contemporary economic research. GS derives from the theoretical work on wealth accounting, and addresses shortcomings in conventional metrics of economic development by incorporating broader measures of saving and investment, including human capital (

Observation of Genuine High-dimensional Multi-partite Non-locality in Entangled Photon States

Quantum information science has leaped forward with the exploration of high-dimensional quantum systems, offering greater potential than traditional qubits in quantum communication and quantum computing. To advance the field of high-dimensional quantum technology, a significant effort is underway to progressively enhance the entanglement dimension between two particles. An alternative effective st

E-commerce Managers at Work : Exploring the Role of a New Market Actor

Digitalization is shaping the discipline and practice of marketing. Not only does digitalization shape how we shop and consume everything from music to food and mobility services (Cochoy, Hagberg, McIntyre, & Sörum, 2017; Fuentes, Hagberg, & Kjellberg, 2019; Guyader, 2018; Schneider & Eli, 2022), but it has also fundamentally transformed the practices of marketing. Digitalization has c

Towards privacy-aware personalization practices in retail

Extended abstractNew technologies have enabled an unprecedented level of data collection, enabling retailers to providepersonalized experiences as part of their strategy to deliver better customer value and managecustomer relationships. At the same time, increasingly intrusive data collection techniques have raisedsignificant privacy concerns among consumers and regulators. The result is an increa

Physics for the whole body

There are many laws of physics involved in the design and operation of roller coasters, carousels, and other amusement rides. Physics for the Whole Body in Playgrounds and Amusement Parks teaches these concepts in an exciting and approachable way by linking them with students’ personal experiences of rides in amusement parks. This unique book features:Immersive elements to learn scientific principl

Four Decades of Hyperfine Anomalies

Isotopic differences in the distribution of nuclear charge and magnetization give rise to "hyperfine structure anomalies" which were observed already in the 1950s. More recently, the distribution of nuclear magnetization has been found to complicate the interpretation of the measured hyperfine splittings in highly charged hydrogen-like ions. In this paper, results of numerical calculations for a f

Unpacking the language of taste — A study of gustatory descriptions in Swedish laypeople and trained experts.

Eating and drinking evoke complex sensory experiences and articulating them through language is often challenging. Differences between laypeople and sensory experts may offer valuable insights into how gustatory experiences are communicated. This is important because describing flavor in clear and shared terms is essential when experts and non-experts need to understand each other, whether in food

Radiative lifetimes of the 6 p2P12/0 and 6 p2P32/0 levels in Yb II

Radiative lifetimes have been determined for the 62P12/0 and 62P32/0 levels in Yb II using the method of laser-induced fluorescence from sputtered metal vapour. The results, 8.0(2)ns (62P12/0) and 6.3(3)ns (62P32/0), are compared with lifetimes obtained from ab initio manybody perturbation calculations.

Hyperfine structure of the 7p state in Fr

By the use of relativistic many-body theory, the hyperfine structure of the 7p state of Fr211 was calculated. By including polarization effects in all orders, good agreement for the magnetic dipole constant was obtained. In the same way, a new value of the electric quadrupole moment is obtained: Q=-240 mb for Fr211(P322).

Copy number signatures in cervical samples enable early detection of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma

BackgroundThe lack of effective screening methods for the detection of ovarian cancer leads to late diagnosis and poor outcomes. High-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSC) is strongly dominated by copy number alterations (CNAs), resulting from underlying mutational processes. Several studies have reported the detection of ovarian carcinoma-derived somatic mutations in cervical samples, uterine lav

You cannot pinkwash genocide: Why the (queer) refugee law studies community should be talking about Palestine – and why it is not

Palestinians represent one of the largest refugee populations in the world, and are reserved a special legal status under Article 1D of the Refugee Convention. A number of urgent novel questions are now also arising from the current genocide and mass displacement in Gaza, yet the refugee law studies community on the whole remains silent. This article examines academic silence and Israeli pinkwashi

Conducting Narratives : Navigating Through Complexity Using Strategic Improvisation

How can the strategic direction for an organization be supported and communicated if planning, and even strategies, are no longer sufficient options in the age of complexity? In this book it is argued that sense-making communication defines contemporary societies and organizations in a world where narratives and the ability to engage in strategic improvisation are crucial. In the book, new and old

Linked Geodata: Improving Rooftop Photovoltaic Production Estimates through BIM-GIS Integration using Semantic Web Technologies

Accurately predicting rooftop photovoltaic (PV) electricity output is crucial for sustainable urban energy planning, yet current workflows that rely on 3D city models in CityGML Level of Detail 2 (LOD2) tend to inflate roof areas and, consequently, PV potential. This study develops and evaluates a proof-of-concept framework that integrates detailed Building Information Modelling (BIM) data in Ind

Decipherment of Historical Manuscripts with Unknown or Rare Writings : The DESCRYPT Project

We present a newly funded research program, DESCRYPT, aimed at deciphering and analyzing historical texts with rare or unknown scripts. The project leverages advancements in computational linguistics, artificial intelligence (AI), and image processing, alongside traditional philological methods, to develop innovative tools for transcription, recognition, and interpretation of historical writings w
