I litteraturens mittfåra. Månadens bok och svensk bokmarknad under 1970-talet

Popular Abstract in Swedish Föreliggande avhandling, I litteraturens mittfåra, behandlar bokmarknad, bokklubbar och litteraturen under 1970-talet i Sverige. I litteraturens mittfåra, deals with book trade, book clubs, and the fiction prose of the 1970s in Sweden. The background to the study is the radical change in Swedish book trade through a far-reaching deregulation of the trade in 1970. The book clubs expanded from a position where they held a 9% share of the market in 1970 to a market share of 30% in 1980.And the specifi

Optical properties of human whole blood - Changes due to slow heating

Optical properties of human whole blood were measured in vitro, at 633 nm with a double integrating sphere set-up, The blood was kept at constant flow through a flow cell while slowly heating the blood from approximately 25 degrees C to 55 degrees C in a heat exchanger, The results show a small but distinct decrease in the g-factor of 1.7 +/- 0.6\% and a similar increase in the scattering coeffici

Industrial challenges in the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for ethanolic fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass

Popular Abstract in English The production and use of bioethanol can help reducing the dependency on oil, and also represents a renewable source of energy. Bioethanol can be obtained from biomass such as agricultural and forest residues, after appropriate pretreatment and fermentation. This thesis addresses some of the challenges that must be overcome for the production of ethanol from biomass to The sustainable production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass requires the combination of efficient hydrolysis and complete fermentation of all the monomeric sugars present in the raw material. The present work was aimed at tackling some of the major challenges that will be encountered in commercial-scale ethanol production using Baker’s yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the preferred microorg

Association of Amphiphiles and Polyelectrolytes with DNA

DNA- cationic amphiphile and DNA-cationic polymer systems were studied with respect to the intermolecular interactions, as well as structure and stability of formed complexes. The thesis is divided in two parts: one section is a summary and the other section contains five papers. The summary is organized as follows; Chapter 2 gives an overview on the behavior of polyelectrolytes in solutions with

Consuming work and managing employability: Studentsʼ work orientations and the process of contemporary job search

Unemployment and precarity have become key features of 21st century work. Employability is presented as a solution to these issues. Individuals are exhorted to manage their employability, in order to be able to exercise choice in the labour market. While employability is individualsʼ responsibility, governments, employers and educational bodies simply provide opportunities for its development. Hig

Walking away from a low-carbon economy?

Using the latest available data, this brief article attempts to provide the first regional decomposition analysis of CO2 emissions from fuel combustion. Covering eight regions of the world, determinants are estimated in relative and absolute terms for the period 1971-2010. We take the 2010 global surge in CO2 emissions as an entry point for the analysis. Overall, results show that most regions hav

Main-sequence progenitor configurations of the NN Ser candidate circumbinary planetary system are dynamically unstable

Recent observations of the NN Serpentis post-common envelope binary system have revealed eclipse timing variations that have been attributed to the presence of two Jovian-mass exo-planets. Under the assumption that these planets are real and survived from the binary's main-sequence state, we reconstruct initial binaries that give rise to the present NN Ser configuration and test the dynamical stab

Analysis of mass loss rate from cone calorimeter tests in nitrogen atmosphere

The Cone Calorimeter is a widely used advanced reaction to fire test, where a material’s fire properties is determined from test parameters such as time-toignition and heat release. The Cone Calorimeter has further a role in flame spread modelling, where data from the small-scale test can be used as input to models, or alternatively, the test can be used for validation purposes. In such cases, how

Evolutionary relations between subtypes of telomere-associated repeats in Chironomus

Telomere-associated DNA in Chironomus pallidivittatus contains tandemly repeated 340-bp units. We show that they are distributed among several subtypes of which we have characterized two, M1 and D1, with regard to base sequence, homogeneity, and intertelomeric distribution. Each subpopulation is highly homogeneous and the two subtypes have identical consensus sequences throughout 90% of their leng
