Putsens inverkan på fasadens fuktbalans

Popular Abstract in Swedish Olika källor till fukt i ytterväggar. Betydelsen av sambandet mellan puts och underlag för fuktbalansen i ytterväggar. Provningsmetoder. Kartläggning av egenskaper hos olika putser och underlag ingår ej i undersökningen. The report deals with the effect of renderings on the moisture balance in facades. The main therne is the moisture mechanism in cnnnection with different moisture sources. Different opinions about moisture in facades and consequences of moisture are mentioned as a background. The work is then concentratedon on the moisture conditions in rendered walls. Different moisture sources are discussed sep

Transparency preference and economic behavior

It is shown that decision makers guided by Popperian epistemology will have a preference for transparency, even in situations where standard economic theory provides no rationale for such a preference. This provides a Popperian resolution of the Ellsberg paradox, and a rationale for suspicion in experiments as well as in economic life.

The effect of short-duration sub-maximal cycling on balance in single-limb stance in patients with anterior cruciate ligament injury: a cross-sectional study

Background: It has previously been shown that an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury may lead to impaired postural control, and that the ability to maintain postural control is decreased by fatigue in healthy subjects. To our knowledge, no studies have reported the effect of fatigue on postural control in subjects with ACL injury. This study was aimed at examining the effect of fatigue on bala

A supersymmetry approach to billiards with randomly distributed scatterers: II. Correlations

In a previous contribution (Stockmann H J 2002 J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 35 5165), the density of states was calculated for a billiard with randomly distributed delta-like scatterers, doubly averaged over the positions of the impurities and the billiard shape. This result is now extended to the k-point correlation function. Using supersymmetric methods, we show that the correlations in the bulk are a

Structure of amorphous silicon investigated by EXAFS

The local structure of amorphous Si (a-Si) formed by ion implantation has been investigated at the Si K edge with extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (EXAFS). The first four cumulants of the interatomic distance distribution have been determined using the Cumulant method. The structural parameters (bondlength, coordination number and Debye-Waller factor) compared favorably to pre

Gut microbiota and development of atopic eczema in 3 European birth cohorts

Background: Stimulation of the immune system by gut microbes might prevent allergy development. Objective: The present study examined the hypothesis that sensitization to food allergens and atopic eczema are influenced by the infantile intestinal colonization pattern. Methods: Infants were recruited perinatally in Goteborg (n = 116), London (n = 108), and Rome (n = 100). Commensal bacteria were id

Skin morphology and layer identification using different STIM geometries

The use of on-axis geometry in scanning transmission ion microscopy (STIM) has been widely used for thin biological sample structure identification. In this configuration, the lateral resolution is optimised so that micron or submicron beam spots are easily achieved even for classic microbeam lines. Off-axis STIM was more particularly employed for rapid imaging, and also (when associated to a scat

Heavy quark production at the Fermilab Tevatron and DESY ep collider HERA using k(t) factorization with the CCFM evolution approach

The application of k(t) factorization supplemented with the Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) small-x evolution equation to heavy quark production at the Fermilab Tevatron and at DESY HERA is discussed. The b (b) over bar production cross sections at the Tevatron can be consistently described using the k(t)-factorization formalism together with the unintegrated gluon density obtained with

Socioeconomic and sociolinguistic predictors of children’s L2 and L1 writing quality

Spanish-English bilingual fourth grade children were reliably poorer in English receptive vocabulary and English grammar awareness compared to their English-speaking monolingual peers, but were as skillful in English language assessments of phonological awareness, reading comprehension, and five measures of writing (writing quality, word, clause, and transcribing fluency, and vocabulary diversity)

Transverse and longitudinal Bose-Einstein correlations

We show how a difference in the correlation length longitudinally and transversely, with respect to the jet axis in e+e− annihilation, arises naturally in a model for Bose-Einstein correlations based on the Lund string model. In genuine three-particle correlations the difference is even more apparent and they provide therefore a good probe for the longitudinal stretching of the string field. The c

Beta-Cell-Targeted Expression of a Dominant-Negative Mutant of Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor-1{alpha} in Mice: Diabetes Model with {beta}-Cell Dysfunction Partially Rescued by Nonglucose Secretagogues.

We studied islet function in mice with beta-cell-targeted expression of a dominant-negative mutant of hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF)-1alpha. At age 2-3 months, anesthetized transgenic and wild-type male mice underwent an intravenous glucose (1 g/kg) tolerance test (IVGTT). It was found that transgenic mice had an abolished insulin response in association with severe glucose intolerance. In other

Isolation, characterization, and enzymatic hydrolysis of acetyl-galactoglucomannan from spruce (Picea abies)

Water-soluble hemicelluloses were extracted from spruce chips by heat-fractionation using microwave treatment. A screening of conditions (pH, temperature and residence time) was performed for the extraction of O-acetyl-galactoglucomannan (AcGGM). The yield and the average molecular weight of the extracted mannan were analysed using HPLC, size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) and mass-spectrometry. T

Selection of Resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae during Penicillin Treatment In Vitro and in Three Animal Models.

Pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) properties for the selection of resistant pneumococci were studied by using three strains of the same serotype (6B) for mixed-culture infection in time-kill experiments in vitro and in three different animal models, the mouse peritonitis, the mouse thigh, and the rabbit tissue cage models. Treatment regimens with penicillin were designed to give a wide

Dynamic simulation of the steam supply system for a multi-cylinder dryer

A dynamic model and simulation program describing the principles of a steam supply system for a paper dryer were developed. The dynamics of a cylinder and the paper sheet during an altered valve position were studied. The results showed that the dynamic course during a pressure increase is different from the course during a pressure decrease. A potential method for the determination of the heat tr

A novel approach to monoclonal antibody separation using high performance liquid affinity chromatography (HPLAC) with SelectiSpher-10 protein G

Protein G, a bacterial cell wall protein extracted from strains of Streptococci, has been employed as a ligand in high performance liquid affinity chromatography (HPLAC) for separation of monoclonal antibodies. Examples are given of rapid high-resolution separations of rat and mouse monoclonal antibodies belonging to various subclasses. In comparison with protein A chromatography, we were able to
