Do competition authorities consider business relationships?

Abstract in Undetermined Purpose: Companies engage in business relationships for a variety of reasons, including specialization, product development, and building competitive networks. Research has demonstrated that mergers and acquisitions (M&As) may challenge ongoing business relationships. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether and how competition authorities consider busines

Search for Dark Matter in Events with Missing Transverse Momentum and a Higgs Boson Decaying to Two Photons in pp Collisions at root s=8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

Results of a search for new phenomena in events with large missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying to two photons are reported. Data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) have been collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The observed data are well described by the expected standard model b

Net-Charge Fluctuations in Pb-Pb Collisions at root s(NN)=2.76 TeV

We report the first measurement of the net-charge fluctuations in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV, measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The dynamical fluctuations per unit entropy are observed to decrease when going from peripheral to central collisions. An additional reduction in the amount of fluctuations is seen in comparison to the results from lower en

Noble gases in individual L chondritic micrometeorites preserved in an Ordovician limestone

We have measured the He and Ne concentrations and isotopic ratios of individual sediment-dispersed extraterrestrial chromite grains (63-180 mu m in diameter) from an Ordovician limestone in southern Sweden. In the same sediment, many fossil meteorites were found and have been attributed to the L chondrite parent body breakup event similar to 470 Ma ago. In this analysis of 37 individual extraterre

On the equations of motion in multibody dynamics

The equations of motion for a multibody system are derived from a continuum mechanical point of view. This will allow for the presence of rigid, as well as deformable, parts in the multibody system. The approach, using the principle of virtual power, leads to the classical Lagrange equations of motion. The generalized forces appearing in the equations are given as expressions involving contact, in

Towards superhydrophobic coatings made by non-fluorinated polymers sprayed from a supercritical solution

The objective of this study was to create a superhydrophobic surface using polymers that are non-fluorinated and applying them to a surface via rapid expansion of a supercritical solution (RESS). Solubility studies of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) and a statistical copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl pivalate (P(VAc-VPi))in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO(2)) were carried out using an extra

Genetic divergence predicts reproductive isolation in damselflies

Reproductive isolation is the defining characteristic of a biological species, and a common, but often untested prediction is a positive correlation between reproductive isolation and genetic divergence. Here, we test for this correlation in odonates, an order characterized by strong sexual selection. First, we measure reproductive isolation and genetic divergence in eight damselfly genera (30 spe

Modeling regional deposited dose of submicron aerosol particles

We developed a simple model to calculate the regional deposited dose of submicron aerosol particles in the respiratory system. This model incorporates measured outdoor and modeled indoor particle number size distributions, detailed activity patterns of three age groups (teens, adults, and the elderly), semi-empirical estimation of the regional deposition fraction, hygroscopic properties of urban a

Quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is hampered by interruptions in chest compressions-A nationwide prospective feasibility study

Aim of the study: Quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical determinant of outcome following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. The aim of our study was to evaluate the quality of CPR provided by emergency medical service providers (Basic Life Support (BLS) capability) and emergency medical service providers assisted by paramedics, nurse anesthetists or physician-manned ambulances

Cloud condensation nuclei closure study on summer arctic aerosol

We present an aerosol - cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) closure study on summer high Arctic aerosol based on measurements that were carried out in 2008 during the Arctic Summer Cloud Ocean Study (ASCOS) on board the Swedish ice breaker Oden. The data presented here were collected during a three-week time period in the pack ice (> 85 degrees N) when the icebreaker Oden was moored to an ice floe and

Difluoromethylbenzoxazole Pyrimidine Thioether Derivatives: A Novel Class of Potent Non-Nucleoside HIV-1 Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors

This paper reports the synthesis and antiviral properties of new difluoromethylbenzoxazole (DFMB) pyrimidine thioether derivatives as non-nucleoside HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitors. By use of a combination of structural biology study and traditional medicinal chemistry, several members of this novel class were synthesized using a single electron transfer chain process (radical nucleophilic

Conceptual Mean-Line Design of Single and Twin-Shaft Oxy-Fuel Gas Turbine in a Semiclosed Oxy-Fuel Combustion Combined Cycle

The aim of this study was to compare single-and twin-shaft oxy-fuel gas turbines in a semiclosed oxy-fuel combustion combined cycle (SCOC-CC). This paper discussed the turbomachinery preliminary mean-line design of oxy-fuel compressor and turbine. The conceptual turbine design was performed using the axial through-flow code LUAX-T, developed at Lund University. A tool for conceptual design of axia

Mechanisms of odor coding in coniferous bark beetles: From neuron to behavior and application

Coniferous bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) locate their hosts by means of olfactory signals, such as pheromone, host, and nonhost compounds. Behavioral responses to these volatiles are well documented. However, apart from the olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) detecting pheromones, information on the peripheral olfactory physiology has for a long time been limited. Recently, ho

Dietary total antioxidant capacity and gastric cancer risk in the European prospective investigation into cancer and nutrition study

A high intake of dietary antioxidant compounds has been hypothesized to be an appropriate strategy to reduce gastric cancer (GC) development. We investigated the effect of dietary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in relation to GC in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer (EPIC) study including 23 centers in 10 European countries. A total of 521,457 subjects (153,447 men) aged mostly 3

Chimerism analysis in clinical practice and its relevance for the detection of graft rejection and malignant relapse in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients.

Chimerism and clinical outcome data from 244 hematopoietic stem cell transplants in 218 children were retrospectively analyzed to assess their relevance for the detection of graft rejection and malignant relapse. Patients transplanted for a non-malignant disease had significantly higher proportions of residual recipient T cells in peripheral blood at one, three, and six months compared with patien

FYHR A. & AKSELSSON R. (2012) European Journal of Cancer Care Characteristics of medication errors with parenteral cytotoxic drugs Errors involving cytotoxic drugs have the potential of being fatal and should therefore be prevented. The objective of this article is to identify the characteristics of medication errors involving parenteral cytotoxic drugs in Sweden. A total of 60 cases reported

Coordination of boron in nominally boron-free rock forming silicates: Evidence for incorporation of BO3 groups in clinopyroxene

To explore mechanisms of B-incorporation in common chain silicates we have investigated synthetic diopside samples produced under boron-saturated conditions by B-11 and Si-29 magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR and single-crystal NRA, FTIR, EMP and XRD/SREF techniques. Our samples contain 0.14-0.65 wt.% B2O3. NMR reveals that B is predominantly present in trigonal coordination in the clinopyroxene stru

Evidence for structural transition in hairy-rod poly[9,9-bis(2-ethylhexyl)fluorene] under high pressure conditions

We report on an x-ray scattering experiment of bulk poly[9,9-bis(2-ethylhexyl)fluorene] under quasihydrostatic pressure from 1 to 11 GPa at room temperature. The scattering pattern of high molecular weight (HMW) polyfluorene (>10 kg/mol) undergoes significant changes between 2 and 4 GPa in the bulk phase. The 110 reflection of the hexagonal unit cell disappears, indicating a change in equatorial i
