Grävpålar - Dimensionering, utförande och användningsområden

Foundations of buildings and structures are laid with various methods, both deep and shallow foundations. Piling is the most common method of deep foundations while spread footings are often used in shallow foundations, especially in buildings with column frame. An alternative is to use a composite pile foundation where piles and spread footings or piles and a base slab are used to carry the loads

Att leva med missbrukare : En studie om medberoende kvinnor från Sydostasien

The purpose of this essay was to examine female immigrants of South East Asia who have lived together with a drug addict and how they were affected and let themselves be influenced by that, and to study their reactions to such situations. The main questions were: · How do the women describe their personal relationship matters with their husbands with focus on abuse / co-dependency? · How do the

Sediment Transport Studies in Punatsangchhu River

Sediment transport pattern in the Himalayan River is complex and sediment sampling in these rivers are often difficult. Sediment load in the river varies largely from year to year. Major part of the sediment load is transported in the monsoon months. Reliable and consistent sediment rating equation is not found for the Himalayan Rivers. The change in the flow rate and suspended sediment concentrat

Determination of oxidative stability and textural properties of quinoa starch encapsulated oil

Emulsion is a novel technique to deliver fats and fat soluble compounds in food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products. Different emulsifiers are often used to stabilize the emulsions. Chemically modified quinoa starch granule has taken research importance as an emulsifier in last decade. Chemically modified starch stabilized emulsions are now also been dehydrated to facilitate its use multidimens

Energy transfer and conformational dynamics in Zn-porphyrin dendrimers

The energy transfer within a series of Zn-porphyrin appended dendrimers was studied by means of time-resolved fluorescence anisotropy. We show that the energy transfer process between the Zn-porphyrin units in the dendrimers is limited to a maximum of four porphyrin units. At 200 K, the energy transfer process takes place on a 100-ps time scale, and can be modeled by Forster theory. Our results at

Growth and characterization of GaAs and InAs nano-whiskers and InAs/GaAs heterostructures

Semiconducting InAs and GaAs nano-whiskers have been grown using a chemical beam epitaxy approach in combination with size-selected catalytic Au aerosol particles. The characterization of InAs and GaAs whiskers shows high crystalline quality as seen by transmission electron microscopy. Gate-dependent transport measurements suggests a diffusive electronic transport mechanism. We have also combined

On Laplace-Carleson embedding theorems

This paper gives embedding theorems for a very general class of weighted Bergman spaces: the results include a number of classical Carleson embedding theorems as special cases. The little Hankel operators on these Bergman spaces are also considered. Next, a study is made of Carleson embeddings in the right half-plane induced by taking the Laplace transform of functions defined on the positive half

The construction of organizational identity: Comparative case studies of consulting firms

This paper explores how organizational identity is constructed in four very different management consulting firms. The study suggests four broad dimensions that organizational members refer to in constructing their organizational identity: Knowledge Work, Management and Membership, Personal Orientation, and External Interface. We identify multiple themes within these broad dimensions of identity c

Reducing Throttle Losses Using Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT) in a Heavy-Duty Spark-Ignited Natural Gas Engine

Stoichiometric operation of Spark Ignited (SI) Heavy Duty Natural Gas (HDNG) engines with a three way catalyst results in very low emissions however they suffer from bad gas-exchange efficiency due to use of throttle which results in high throttling losses. Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT) is a good practice to reduce throttling losses in a certain operating region of the engine. VTG technology is

Pediatric Heart Transplantation within the Scandiatransplant Region - A Multinational Observational Study Spanning 38 years

BACKGROUND: Thirty-eight years of pediatric heart transplantation (pHTx) within the Scandiatransplant organization were analyzed to describe volume trends, regional prevalence, underlying etiologies and outcomes following listing and pHTx.METHODS: Children <18 years listed for pHTx from January 1st 1986 to December 31st 2023 were identified in the Scandiatransplant registry. The cohort was split i

Bowel irradiation: the effects on inflammation and matrix-metalloproteinases

Background and aims: Radiotherapy is a valid treatment in cancer multimodal management but it is affected by severe systemic and local side effects. A murine small bowel model was used for the investigation of inflammatory features and apoptosis of local radiotherapy. Similarly the same model was used to analyze the combined effects of radiotherapy and antibiotics in the expression of matrilysin,

From surfactant to cellulose and DNA self-assembly. A 50-year journey

Surfactants have been the basis for applications in several industrial sectors for a long time. However, fundamental research was 50 years ago still limited to a small number of academic groups and even basic aspects were controversial. The field has since undergone an enormous expansion and the improved understanding has laid the basis of numerous new products as well as been the basis of importa

Early efficacy of budesonide/formoterol in patients with moderate-to-very-severe COPD

Background and objective: Large clinical trials have confirmed the long-term efficacy of inhaled corticosteroid/long-acting β2-agonist combinations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It was hypothesized that significant treatment effects would already be present within 3 months after the initiation of treatment across a range of clinical outcomes, irrespective of COPD s

Two-dimensional crystallization and electron crystallography of MAPEG proteins

Members of the membrane-associated proteins in the eicosanoid and glutathione metabolism (MAPEG) superfamily have been subjected to two-dimensional crystallization experiments. A common denominator for successful attempts has been the use of a low lipid/protein ratio in the range of 1-9 (mol/mol). Electron crystallography demonstrated either hexagonal or orthorhombic packing of trimeric protein un

InAs quantum dots grown on InAlGaAs lattice matched to InP

In this paper, we present InAs quantum dots prepared on an InxAlyGa1-x-yAs surface by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy. Atomic force microscopy measurements indicate that dots grown on material with higher Al content are smaller, and that the local dot densities on step-bunched facets formed on the vicinal (0 0 1) surfaces increase. We find that these dots show luminescence at very long wavelengt

Investigating Spatial Data Infrastructure Planning in Tanzania using System Modelling and Social Concepts

Spatial Data Infrastructure is one of the requirements for sustainable development and many countries worldwide are at different stages of implementation. Several researchers have shown that SDI has helped governments to recover funds due to reduction in duplication of efforts and also has increased efficiency in resource management and planning.Tanzania as other developing countries, is at initia

Dosimetric benefit of DMLC tracking for conventional and sub-volume boosted prostate intensity-modulated arc radiotherapy

This study investigated the dosimetric impact of uncompensated motion and motion compensation with dynamic multileaf collimator (DMLC) tracking for prostate intensity modulated arc therapy. Two treatment approaches were investigated; a conventional approach with a uniform radiation dose to the target volume and an intraprostatic lesion (IPL) boosted approach with an increased dose to a subvolume o
