Background: The contribution of smoking to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is hypothesized to be mediated through formation of anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA). In RA, however, autoantibodies such as ACPA, rheumatoid factor (RF), and anti-carbamylated protein antibodies (anti-CarP) often occur together, and it is thus unclear whether smoking is specifically associated with some autoantibodie

The aim of this thesis is to present issues related to cross-border taxation of employee stock options and critically inquiring whether the Swedish Supreme Administrative Court’s reasoning about comparable situations in the two rulings concerning taxation of stock options is supported by ECJ case law. On 4th of November 2015, the Supreme Administrative Court in Sweden issued two rulings concerning

In this study, I have researched how a teacher at an upper secondary school in Sweden teaches critical theory to her students. The questions that were the base for this study included: how the teacher taught critical theory to her students and which theories they use, as well as how they use it and if the teacher includes critical theory when she plans her lessons. There are a lot of previous rese

This thesis explores the dynamics of relationships, focusing on the themes of love, unpaid labour and unequal division. This research examines how traditional gender roles and societal expectations shape the experiences of individuals within heterosexual relationships in Sweden. Through a qualitative methodology, including semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, the study reveals the mul

In this study we describe the morphological and genetic analysis of the Drosophila mutant gurtelchen (gurt). gurt was identified by screening an EMS collection for novel mutations affecting visceral mesoderm development and was named after the distinct belt shaped visceral phenotype. Interestingly, determination of visceral cell identities and subsequent visceral myoblast fusion is not affected in

This research explores the development and use of waste to energy (WTE) technologies in Europe and in the Province of Ontario, Canada. As the quantity of waste generated has continued to increase in industrialized countries, the need for alternative waste management methods to reduce the dependency on landfill and to recover the resource in the waste has also increased. Many European countries, in

In many urban spaces in the United States, the personal vehicle continues to shape the landscape in unsustainable ways that prioritize the economically and socially dominant groups in society and cater to urban sprawl. Equitable access to density-promoting public transportation is often marginalized, creating transportation challenges for economically and socially disadvantaged groups. Throughout

The main objective of this paper is to examine how exogenous technological progress, in terms of an increase in energy efficiency, affects consumption choice by Swedish households and thereby emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx). The aim of the paper is closely related to the discussion of what is termed the “rebound effect”. To neutralise the rebound e

It has recently been claimed that older genes tend to evolve more slowly than newer ones (Alba and Castresana 2005). By simulation of genes of equal age, we show that the inverse correlation between age and rate is an artifact caused by our inability to detect homology when evolutionary distances are large. Since evolutionary distance increases with time of divergence and rate of evolution, homolo

Nanoindentation is a useful experimental method to characterize the micromechanical properties of materials. In this study molecular dynamics and peridynamics are used to simulate nanoindentation, with a spherical indenter targeting a thin single crystal Cu film, resting on an infinitely stiff substrate. The objective is to compare the results obtained from molecular dynamic simulations to those o

For quite some time, cognitive science has offered philosophy an opportunity to address central problems with an arsenal of relevant theories and empirical data. However, even among those naturalistically inclined, it has been hard to find a universally accepted way to do so. Trabecular bone is viscoelastic under dynamic loading. However, it is unclear how tissue viscoelasticity controls viscoelasticity at the apparent-level. In this study, viscoelasticity of cylindrical human trabecular bone samples (n = 11, male, age 18–78 years) from 11 proximal femurs were characterized using dynamic and stress-relaxation testing at the apparent-level and with creep nanoindentation

We study the connections between firm risk and the CEO’s personal wealth characteristics, using a unique dataset on CEO wealth and its components. Consistent with decreasing absolute risk aversion, we find that wealthier CEOs are associated with higher risk firms. Riskier firms tend to have CEOs whose wealth is more independent of the firm. We also find that CEOs with high personal portfolio betas
