This thesis investigates how suicide is portrayed in japanese films and if it is glorified or not. Two films have been chosen for analysis, Seppuku (Harakiri, Masaki Kobayashi, 1962) and Jisatsu saakuru (Suicide Club/Circle, Shion Sono, 2001). The purpose of the thesis is to find out if suicide is glorified in these two films and to examine the historical and reality connections of the timeperiods
Hemispheric asymmetry is a universal property of brain organization with wide implications into brain function and structure, and diseases. This study presents a laterality index for characterizing hemispheric asymmetries that underlie cortical maps using geometric eigenmodes derived from human cortical surfaces. We develop a generalized design to quantify asymmetries across various cortical spati
This article presents a critical assessment of 40 years of research that may be brought under the umbrella of energy efficiency, spanning different aggregations and domains-from individual producing and consuming agents to economy-wide effects to the role of innovation to the influence of policy. After 40 years of research, energy efficiency initiatives are generally perceived as highly effective.
Background Childhood vaccination rates fluctuate over time and do not always meet the levels recommended by the WHO. Objective This study aims to provide an overview of measures countries have introduced to increase vaccination rates. Methods We developed a structured data collection template that was completed by country experts from Europe, Israel, the USA, and Canada. Experts were identified us
Aim: Periodontitis proxy variables enable an expansion of periodontal research. The study aimed to estimate the validity of questionnaire items and registry data in relation to Stage III–IV periodontitis and having 50% bone loss. Methods: Malmö Offspring Dental Study (MODS) participants (995) filled out questionnaires and underwent periodontal and panoramic radiography examinations. The questionna
ImportanceThe genetic variation in patients with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in the Nordic countries has not been previously reported.ObjectivesThe aim was to describe the genetic variation in a Swedish population and identify factors in favor of a high diagnostic yield.DesignThis was a prospective cohort study. ImportanceThe management of complications following oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) surgery can be challenging. Previous studies show conflicting results on complication risks after preoperative radiotherapy (RT), necessitating a randomized controlled trial (RCT).ObjectiveTo compare early complications during hospitalization for OCSCC surgery between patients receiving preoperative acc
Six rotational bands up to energies Ex = 24.7 MeV and spins Jπ=(79/2−) have been identified in 109Sn using the GAMMASPHERE γ-detector array. Four of the bands show smoothly decreasing dynamic moments of inertia at rotational frequencies ℏω > 0.6 MeV. The bands arise at medium spins from a coupling of a valence d5/2, g7/2 or h11/2 neutron to the deformed 2p2h proton excitation of the Z=50 core 108S
In this paper, the results from a joint industry-academia project in industrial robotic force control are presented. The extension and implementation of an external sensor system for an industrial robot system, which can be used for high-bandwidth force control, are described. Results from two industrial applications using the system are presented, a stub grinding application using a new compliant
