Caesarean sections for sale
In a recently published review article from Lund University researchers have analysed the incidence of caesarean sections in different European countries. The results show that private hospitals in several countries have a higher proportion of caesarean sections than public hospitals, even among women in low-risk groups. The caesarean section rate varied from around 17 per cent in northern Europe

Destruction of Gaza Monitored From Space
CMES researcher and physical geographer Lina Eklund is tracking the destruction of Gaza week by week using satellite images. Her analyses could be significant if, once the fighting between Israel and Hamas is over, questions of possible war crimes are raised at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Lina Eklund, associate senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosys

Nuclear physicist’s voyage towards a mythical island
This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Theories were introduced as far back as the 1960s about the possible existence of superheavy elements. Their most long-lived nuclei could give rise to a so-called “island of stability” far beyond the element uranium. However, a new study, led by nuclear physicists at Lund University, shows that a 50-year-old nuclear p

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. The enzyme that produces DNA building blocks plays an important role when cells divide. In a new study, researchers have discovered for the first time that the so-called master switch of the enzyme can change locations - while still performing the same task. Regardless of whether you are human, a worm or a bacterium,
