Mobile exhibition

A trunk of fossil memories Having displayed the Carbon Ruins exhibition at various sites in Lund, a more 'travel-friendly' format was needed to fill the demand. Thus, we purchased a 100-year-old trunk originally designed for a shoe-salesman and filled it with memories from the fossil era. If you are keen to host the trunk, please do contact us. For more information on what's in the trunk, its curr

High-Level Architecture Modeling and Exploration for Streaming Applications

Multi and many core platforms are increasingly employed today to cope with the demands of modern multimedia, networking and other similar streaming applications. Selecting the best architecture for a set of such applications is complex, and without coding for each specific system, the choice is made based on designer experience. In this paper we use CAL, a dataflow language for specifying streamin

Books on the Move: Audiobooks, Audio Storytelling, and Mobile Listening

Sound Studies Lecture Series OPEN LECTURE Wednesday 4 October 15.15–17.00 LUX:B251 (Helgonavägen 3, Lund) In recent years, audiobooks have become increasingly popular.  The audiobook format makes it possible to consume books on the move and in combination with everyday activities, and the format thus fits well into modern everyday life. How does this development impact how we read, experience and

A multistandard frequency offset synchronization scheme for 802.11n, 802.16d, LTE, and DVB-T/H systems

Carrier frequency offset (CFO) synchronization is a crucial issue in the implementation of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Since current technology tends to implement different standards in the same wireless device, a common frequency synchronization structure is desirable. Knowledge of the physical frame and performance and cost system requirements are needed to choose

Lund

Lund has approximately 125 000 inhabitants, students and scholars make up almost half of the population in the city. The old University buildings are set among the cobble-stoned streets in the center of Lund, which date back to 990. The University has gradually grown since it was founded in 1666 and is still expanding. Today you will find faculties, departments, libraries and study halls in all co

Braided Convolutional Codes - A Class of Spatially Coupled Turbo-Like Codes

In this paper, we investigate the impact of spatial coupling on the thresholds of turbo-like codes. Parallel concatenated and serially concatenated convolutional codes as well as braided convolutional codes (BCCs) are compared by means of an exact density evolution (DE) analysis for the binary erasure channel (BEC). We propose two extensions of the original BCC ensemble to improve its threshold an

Involvement of End Users in a Navigation Aid Design Project

This paper describes the involvement of end users in a project aimed to create a navigation aid for older persons who have memory decline, which affects navigation skills, and thus their independence. Interviews, focus groups with “stick man scenarios” and shorter usability tests seemed to work well. An extended test where the users themselves were expected to use the system independently was not

Passenger flows and dwell times for commuter trains in Stockholm

This study investigates how the volume and flow of passengers affect dwell times, using data from commuter trains in Stockholm. We show that dwell times often take longer than scheduled and that most station stops involve rather limited numbers of passengers. Improving the performance at these stops with small volumes can thus have a sizeable impact on the overall on-time performance. We find a qu
