Skiljeklausulers omfattning i svensk skiljerätt

The foundation of arbitration is an agreement between the parties to arbitrate. There are various reasons why parties choose to use arbitration, but the most frequently cited reason is that arbitration is considered to be fast, flexible, efficient, neutral and private. Even though the parties have come to an agreement to use arbitration for their contractual relationship, at the beginning of an ar

Risky business : Corporate risk regulation when managing allegations of crime

This article seeks to develop an understanding of how corporations manage their social and ethical responsibilities, whilst simultaneously facing allegations of crime. It draws on the case of TeliaSonera, a Swedish corporation prosecuted for committing bribery in Uzbekistan. The article begins by introducing the reader to this so-called ‘Uzbek affair’, before exploring how corporate governance has

Active labour market policies in emerging adulthood may act as a protective factor against future depressiveness : an analysis of the long-term trajectories of depressive symptoms in the Northern Swedish Cohort

Introduction: Drawing upon the framework of life course epidemiology, this study aligns with research on the mental health consequences of significant social transitions during early adulthood. The focus is on the variation in initial labour market attachment and the development of depressiveness, assuming that a firm attachment is associated with decreasing depressiveness. Methods: The baseline i

The number of public schools in Sweden has increased strongly over the past twenty years. This essay gives a possible explanation to how the Social Democratic Party in Sweden took part in this evaluation from 1987 to 1997. I've analysed how the party's ideology in this issue was shaped and adapted to the opposite politics, when the Liberals and Conservatives Parties were in government. The

Provocation in Philosophy and Art

Provocation is an integral part of Socrates’ philosophical method. Does provocation have a similar methodological function in art? My tentative answer is no. In the Socratic method, provocation is used both on an individual level to force a person to think better (preferably in ethical matters) and on a general level in order to keep a society awake. A society should never rest but “be stirred int

The dissertation is about career in working life – not career solely in the sense of climbing upwards in the organizational hierarchy to management level, but career as the movement that individuals or groups make over time through working life. The focus is on social workers and their professional field. The overall aim is to describe and analyse social workers’ career patterns and careers at the

Investigations of initial particle stages during spark discharge

The number of nanoparticle-based products on the market is expected to increase considerably during the coming decades. This forces the industry to have highly meticulous manufacturing of large amounts of nanoparticles using cheap and environmentally friendly methods. For the production of metal nanoparticles spark discharge generation is a promising route to fulfill these demands. The spark disch

The Strength of Separateness: A study of five women characters in five novels from two centuries

This thesis investigates the traditional role of women in society through looking at five novels about women by women. To establish what a woman’s traditional place is this thesis compares Coventry Patmore’s poem “The Angel in the House” to Virginia Woolf’s speech “Professions for Women.” It then goes on to analyze the main women characters of five literary works that demonstrate and counter this

Factors affecting the decision of moving ERP to the clouds - from customer perspective

Nowadays cloud computing is becoming very popular and it has started to evolve in the ERP arena as well. Known as cloud based ERP it is a paradigm which is in an infancy stage and growing steadily. There is a lot research about the cloud computing as a technology but, it is still foggy in organizations perceptions of what this technology really means for their ERP. In the scientific studies there

On-line monitoring of a two-stage anaerobic digestion process using a BOD analyzer

A computer-controlled biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) analyzer has been developed for fast estimation of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD,,) automatically with the purpose of on-line monitoring of a process for conversion of biomass under field conditions. The instrument was tested by on-line monitoring of the connecting stream between two stages of a two-stage anaerobic process in laboratory scale.

“I AM DALIT, HOW ARE YOU?”: IDENTITY REPRESENTATIONS IN DALIT HUMAN RIGHTS MOVEMENT

This thesis looks at the Dalit transnational activism that advocates Dalit human rights. It analyzes the representation of the collective Dalit activists' identity. The primary data (interviews and representational data) was collected during the fieldwork in two organizations, the NCDHR and the IDSN, which are the focus of this thesis. Thesis uses international relations' theory on transna

The field of labour history has come to increasingly include the study of gender, a social relation that traditionally has been made invisible. At the same time the past decades of theoretical debate within gender studies and history have meant the marginalisation of class studies, at the benefit of other social relations. I wish to contribute to the field of research on the Swedish labour union m

EU-funding opportunities create incentives for local governments to partake in the implementation of EU regional policies; yet there is a lack of knowledge on the local effects in everyday municipal work. In this article we examine how the European Social Fund (ESF) is used by the EU and national level to govern local activities, how the subnational level acts in response to this and with what con

Solar activity explored with new wavelet methods

In order to improve the forecasts of the impact of solar activity on the terrestrial environment on time scales longer than days, improved understanding and forecasts of the solar activity are needed. The first results of a new approach of modelling and forecasting solar activity are presented. Time series of solar activity indicators, such as sunspot number, group sunspot number, F10.7, E10.7, so

Characteristics of Snowmelt Induced Peak Flows in a Small Northern Basin

Six years' runoff data from Bensbyn Research Watershed (BRW) in northern Sweden is discussed. BRW is 1.6 km2, out of which 0.5 km2 is a large meadow and the remaining area consists of a dense coniferous forest. In the runoff analysis, runoff contribution from the meadow is separated from that from the forest. Peak flows are related to snowmelt from each separate area, and to rain events. The snowm

Femininity at Work - Gender, Labour, and Changing Relations of Power in a Swedish Hospital

Gender scholarship has identified how paid care work reproduces male dominance and reinforces women's subordination, but also how labour and workplaces provide a critical space for women through the development of new forms of identity and struggle. In this ethnographic study of Swedish nurses' work, the concept of normative femininity is used in order to explore gender, labour, and changing relat

Reconstructing Open Surfaces from Image Data

In this paper a method for fitting open surfaces to data obtained from images is presented using a level set representation of the surface. This is done by tracking a curve, representing the boundary, on the implicitly defined surface. This curve is given as the intersection of the level set describing the surface and an auxiliary level set. These two level sets are propagated using the same motio

Performance Analysis of a Countercurrent Flow Heat Exchanger Placed on the Truck Compartment Roof

Due to the increasing power requirement and the limited available space in vehicles, placing the heat exchanger at the roof or the underbody of vehicles might increase the possibility to handle the cooling requirement. A new configuration of the heat exchanger has to be developed to accommodate with the position change. In this paper, a countercurrent heat exchanger is developed for position on th

Neighbourhood events and the visibilisation of everyday life : The cases of Turro (Milan) and Norra Fäladen (Lund)

While scholars agree on the reasons behind the current proliferation of urban, small-scale, pre-organised events, the implication of these events for public life is more controversial, and involves polarised debates between enthusiasts and critics. This paper develops an international comparison between one city district in Milan (Italy) and one in Lund (Sweden), in order to explore how the variet
