Diabetes är en heterogen sjukdom som orsakas av en kombination av miljö och ärftliga riskfaktorer som leder till förhöjt blodsocker genom insulinresistens och/eller insulinbrist. Vi studerar alla typer av diabetes för att förstå hur sjukdomens heterogenitet påverkar sjukdomsförlopp, behandlingsrespons och risk för komplikationer. För detta ändamål använder vi stora populations- och kohortstudier, Diabetes is a heterogeneous disease defined by elevated glucose levels. It is caused by genetic and environmental risk factors that combine to cause dysregulation of glucose metabolism through insulin resistance and/or insulin deficiency.
