Experimental Investigations of Heat Transfer in a Channel with Ribs and Obstacle
Popular Abstract in English This thesis concerns experiments of heat transfer in a rectangular channel with ribs and an obstacle. Liquid crystal thermography (LCT) is used to record the temperature fields in the experiments. LCT is based on measurement of the color response of a heated surface. When illuminated with a white light, the liquid crystals react to temperature changes by changing color,This thesis presents experimental investigations of local heat transfer in a rectangular channel (aspect ratio AR = 4) with continuous transverse ribs as well as an obstacle. Liquid crystal thermography (LCT) is employed to obtain the temperature fields in the heat transfer experiments. The liquid crystal applied here has a red start at 35°C and a bandwidth of 1°C. The work consists of (1) periodi
The Clash of Justice: A Study of Frictions and Global Mechanisms in the Transitional Justice Process of Kenya
Transitional justice is an essential part in any peacebuilding project. This study will aim to examine the relationship of the global and local spectrum in a transitional justice process and try to understand how the western adversarial systems erode and repress the local justice systems. The thesis will seek to study the empirical illustrations in a case study of the transitional justice process
An event study including a quantitative method with a deductive approach has been conducted. Buy-and-Hold Abnormal Return (BHAR) has furthermore been analyzed in a multiple regression, as the
Local Contrasts in Concentration of Ambient Particulate Air Pollution (PM2.5) and Incidence of Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia : Results from the Betula Cohort in Northern Sweden
Exposure to fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5) is emerging as a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), but existing studies are still limited and heterogeneous. We have previously studied the association between dementia (AD and vascular dementia) and PM2.5 stemming from vehicle exhaust and wood-smoke in the Betula cohort in Northern Sweden. The aim of this commentary is to estimate the ass
Challenges and potentials of using a local heat pump in a 5 GDHC solution : Results from field and laboratory evaluations
In fifth generation district heating and cooling (5GDHC), the temperature range of the heat source is wider then in current common heat pump systems. The results of this study show that the heat pumps and chillers that are available in the market are not well adapted to 5GDHC applications due to the wide working range of 5GHDC. In order to maintain a high efficiency, current design parameters shou
Local Treatment of Unresectable Colorectal Liver Metastases : Results of a Randomized Phase II Trial
Background: Tumor ablation is often employed for unresectable colorectal liver metastases. However, no survival benefit has ever been demonstrated in prospective randomized studies. Here, we investigate the long-term benefits of such an aggressive approach. Methods: In this randomized phase II trial, 119 patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases (n < 10 and no extrahepatic disease) re
Local Governance of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Air Travel
Global greenhouse gas emissions from air travel (GHG-A) are on the rise, and projections point towards a rapid growth in the coming decades. This study aims to examine how local government (cities), addresses GHG-A in their Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAP). To fulfil this aim, over 200 SEAPs were analysed focusing on three issues: (1) Treatment of GHG-A in local emissions inventories; (2) PoGlobal greenhouse gas emissions from air travel (GHG-A) are on the rise, and projections point towards a rapid growth in the coming decades. Non-market values of algae beach-cast management : Study site Trelleborg, Sweden
Eutrophication is one of the most serious global threats to coastal areas. One effect of eutrophication is seasonal macroalgal blooms. As a consequence, large amounts of beach-cast algae are today reported from coastal areas worldwide. In this study, we analyze nonmarket benefits by capturing local residents' Willingness To Pay (WTP) for an environmental program to regularly remove and utilize beaEutrophication is one of the most serious global threats to coastal areas. Överenskommelser med SKR, ett vårdpolitiskt styrmedel
Agreements with SKR (Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions) have emerged as a significant steering instrument for the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs (MHSA). The agreements define activities for the Local Authorities to carry out and nearly always include earmarked grants. No study has yet explained why agreements are utilized as a steering instrument. Therefore, this study se
What is the greenest way to eat your greens?
The global food industry is the second main contributor to climate change whilst climate change also poses threats to future food security (Ritchie & Roser, 2020). One of the suggestions to decrease the environmental footprint of consumption and increase the resilience of food systems, is the shift to local production and consumption (Stein & Santini, 2021; Van Gameren et al., 2015). Howev
