The efficacy of cryosurgery is believed to depend on the thaw time. The presence of adrenaline in local anesthetics affects blood perfusion, and may thus also affect the thaw time. The aim of the present study was to use IR thermography to monitor the tissue temperature during cryosurgery of actinic keratosis, and to assess the effect of adrenaline in local anesthetics.MethodsTwelve patients with

Carbon capture and storage technologies (CCS) are being discussed and tested in different countries to reduce industrial emissions. Public opinion about industrial CCS (iCCS) can be a key factor in whether it will be implemented. Yet, measuring public acceptance of CCS is a challenge: on the one hand, the use of CCS is the subject of intense and controversial political debate. On the other hand, a

This paper addresses inclusive tourism in multicultural societies by exploring the domestic tourism experiences of first-generation Italian and Chinese immigrants in Sweden within the context of visiting friends and relatives (VFR) tourism practices and activities. Our results highlight the complex interplay of personal social networks and the hosts’ positionality on VFR experiences and tourism dy

Vid analyserna av de senglaciala sedimentWith a Russian chamber corer late glacial sediments were obtained from Skuremålagölen, a kettle hole lake in Skuremåla in the province of Blekinge, southeastern Sweden. The sediments were analysed with respect to pollen content, magnetic susceptibility, loss on ignition and a 14C date. The main aim of the analyses was to interpret the development of Skuremålagölen and its surroundings during the L

Bride abduction in post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan is a human rights and gender equality issue that continues to exist despite national and international efforts to end it. This bachelor thesis explores Kyrgyz bride abduction as a mismatch or disconnect between local realities and top- down aid practice. It pursues this aim in three steps using a qualitative mixed-methods approach. Firstly, the thesis cond

Popular Abstract in English In Mozambique, many wild fruit species occur naturally in forest environments. Most of the wild fruits are consumed fresh because of their short shelf-life when ripe. Forests play an important role in rural communities as a source of food and medicinal and social/cultural services and also provide a source of income when fruits are sold at local markets. Some parts of MVangueria infausta (African medlar) is a wild fruit found in southern and central Mozambique. The ripe fruit has a leathery skin enclosing three to five seeds embedded in a soft pulp that tastes like apple. It plays an important role in the diet of the rural population and has the potential for commercial use. The fruit is mostly eaten fresh, and sometimes mixed with porridges, but in some parts

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the construct validity of a new rating scale for self-reported impairments in persons with late effects of polio. DESIGN: Psychometric analysis of data on self-perceived impairments in persons with prior polio. PARTICIPANTS: Two hundred and seventy-three persons with prior polio (119 men and 154 women; mean age, 63.5 years). METHOD: Rasch analysis of a 13-item rating scale w

Tillsammans meDeclines in the distribution and abundance of many farmland species during recent decades have been attributed to agricultural intensification. Agri-environment schemes are commonly used in Europe to reduce this loss of farmland biodiversity, but their effectiveness may depend on several external factors. In this thesis, I have used one such scheme, organic faming, as a landscape scale experiment

The objective of this thesis is to examine rural populations' access to land in Ethiopia, in the light of land regulations and different obstacles. Using a qualitative research design, based on a literature study, the following topics will be discussed; land regulation, state-led industrial development, villagization program and land-grab. In conclusion, the regulatory framework forbids locals

In the recent years, large progresses in laser imaging techniques have allowed to extract spatially resolved 2D and 3D quantitative spray information even in optically dense situations. The main breakthrough of these techniques is the possibility of suppressing unwanted effects from multiple light scattering using Structured Illumination. Thanks to this new feature, effects due to light extinction

According to the literature, there is a gap between national environmental goals and the policies implemented at local governmental level. This study examines whether this environmental implementation gap exists and how it may be bridged through a constructionist lens. Through doing intense research and interviewing local governmental officials working with implementation of the environmental goal

In the central Himalayas, water dynamics are expected to change due to multiple factors like climate change, hydro power development and shifting land use practices. This thesis looks at possible changes in water dynamics in Marsyandi river basin, Nepal, as well as causes to those changes and how they are perceived locally. Grounded in critical physical geography, the study uses mixed methods an

Local adaptation in hermaphrodite species can be based on a variety of fitness components, including survival, as well as both female and male sex-functions within individuals. When selection via female and male fitness components varies spatially (e.g. due to environmental heterogeneity), local adaptation will depend, in part, on variation in selection through each fitness component, and the exte

Spatial data are playing an increasingly important role in watershed science and management. Large investments have been made by government agencies to provide nationally-available spatial databases; however, their relevance and suitability for local watershed applications is largely unscrutinized. We investigated how goodness of fit and predictive accuracy of total phosphorus (TP) concentration m

After World War II, the ethno-demographic structure of many cities in eastern and central Europe was fundamentally changed as a result of genocides, ethnic cleansing, deportations and migrations. The cultural diversity that had been characteristic of many of those cities was radically reduced, as new inhabitants tried to find their place in the cityscapes. In focus of this thesis is thememory work

The strongly temperature-dependent ionic mobility in polymer electrolytes is used to freeze in specific ionic charge environments around a nanowire using a local wrap-gate geometry. This makes it possible to set both the threshold voltage for a conventional doped substrate gate and the local disorder potential at temperatures below 220 K. These are characterized in detail by combining conductance

AttAs the degree of electrification and the amount of variable electricity production increase, the Swedish electricity system faces some challenges. These challenges include balancing electricity consumption and production, and ensuring the ability of the grid to meet the rising power flows. Part of the solution to both problems could involve flexibility. Flexibility is the ability to adapt electric
