UN conference: Is it time for biodiversity to take centre stage?

Just over two weeks after the UN climate summit in Egypt, the leaders of the world’s countries are meeting again, this time to address another acute crisis facing humanity – the loss of biodiversity. The issue is less well-known than the climate crisis and no framework corresponding to the Paris agreement is in place – something that many people hope the December summit in Montreal will rectify. New digital cognitive test for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease

Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have developed a digital cognitive test for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease that is intended for use in primary care. “This digital test, which patients perform on their own with minimal involvement from healthcare personnel, improves the primary care physician's ability to determine who should be further examined by blood tests for Alzheimer's pathology ear

Digital revolution changes work environment

This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. How does digital technology affect our work situation? Could data collected to measure our performance lead to old-fashioned micromanagement? Should higher education take after healthcare with regard to the boundary between work and spare time? These are some of the questions discussed by researchers involved in the r

Five years since electric scooters’ introduction in Sweden – here’s why people use them

Five years ago, shared e-scooters arrived in big Swedish cities almost overnight. Today, they are as debated, as they are a familiar sight of the city landscape. In his doctoral thesis, Phil Justice Flores has investigated why people use shared micromobility such as e-scooters and e-bikes. His research shows that for many people, shared electric scooters are used because they contribute to positiv

A new bioinfomatics pipeline solves a 50-year-old blood group puzzle

Currently, a lot is known about which genes are responsible for our individual blood groups, however not much is understood about how and why the levels of the blood group molecules differ between one person to another. This can be important for blood transfusion safety. Now a research group at Lund University in Sweden has developed a toolbox that finds the answer – and in doing so, has solved a
