Lärande och minnande på demensvisningar : en komparativ fallstudie av pedagogik inom demensvisningar på museer

This master’s thesis focuses on pedagogy and aspects of learning and remembering within guided museum tours for people with dementia. We explore in what way learning and remembering are focused on and triggered during those tours and with the help of which pedagogical means. Furthermore, we discuss what place these tours have within the museum as an institution. In order to examine our questions a

Bedömning av den potentiella föroreningsnivån vid plantskolor och växthus – Utvärdering av en MIFO fas 1-matris

Greenhouses and nursery-gardens is an important business in Sweden, covering a land area of 3,0 million square meters in 2011. The downside of this otherwise blooming business is however the use of so called PPPs, plant protection products, which is connected to it. Historically the use of PPPs has been widespread and the handling has been conducted in an off-hand way. During the post-war time the

Macromolecular Engineering by Surface-Initiated ATRP: : New Nanomaterials for Bioapplications

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the synthesis of well-defined polymer nanohybrid materials bearing desirable functionality via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) for potential bioapplications.SI-ATRP is an excellent controlled radical polymerization (CRP) method for the synthesis of polymer nanohybrid by growing polymer brushes (chains) from an interfac

Constructing Transit Corridors : The Politics of Public Transport Policy and Planning in Malmöhus and Skåne 1970-2020

Denna avhandling visar hur organiseringen av beslutsfattande, planeringspraktiker och den rumPlanning local and regional public transport in so-called ’transit corridors’ – i.e., to concentrate infrastructure and resources to few, but more attractive corridors in a city or a region – is commonplace in contemporary public transport planning. This has not always been the case, however. In this thesis I analyze how transit corridors have come to dominate the policies and planning practices o

Overcoming delivery challenges in stem cell biology with nanotechnology

The discovery of the CRISPR-Cas9 system has revolutionized several areas of biological research by making genome engineering easy, affordable, fast, accessible and scalable. One field that has not yet benefited from this technological advance is that of mitochondrial DNA research. Study I addresses the challenges associated with adapting CRISPR-Cas9 to the mitochondrial environment, and identifies

Leaf-scale study of biogenic volatile organic compound emissions from willow (Salix spp.) short rotation coppices covering two growing seasons

In Europe, willow (Salix spp.) trees have been used commercially since the 1980s at a large scale to produce renewable energy. While reducing fossil fuel needs, growing short rotation coppices (SRCs), such as poplar or willow, may have a high impact on local air quality as these species are known to produce high amounts of isoprene, which can lead to the production of tropospheric ozone (O3). Here

Role of FLT3 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Molecular mechanisms and Therapeutic opportunities

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a highly heterogeneous blood disease which is characterized by different mutations and chromosomal rearrangements. Nearly 60% of genetic alterations have been found in AML patients involve in signaling pathways including signaling of tyrosine kinase receptor FLT3. FLT3 mutations emerged as one of the most common mutations in AML which represent around 35% of all AML

Lung Microenvironments Influence on Mast Cell Plasticity and Spatial Distribution of Immune cells

Inflammatory airway diseases and lower respiratory tract infections are leading causes of severe illness, disability and death worldwide. Much of today´s hypotheses about the underlying inflammatory processes and pathogenic contribution by immune cells come from in vitro experiments or animal models. As a consequence, our knowledge of the actual immunopathological events in real patient tissues is

Passenger Liability, according to the Montreal Convention

This thesis deals with the international rules regarding passenger liability on an international aircraft. The focus will be the carrier's liability toward passengers on an aircraft. The purpose is to give an account of the common international rules and to clarify the problems with interpretation of the passenger liability article. I will focus on the Montreal Convention of 1999, which is the

From Slum to Adequate Shelter - A Study on Housing Solutions for the Urban Poor in Manila, Philippines

This report is about the housing situation in Manila, capital of the Philippines. 25% of the inhabitants in this mega city live in informal settlements, often on places unsuitable for living. The target area of this paper is Baseco, a large slum area near the outlet of Pasig River and home to 47 000 people according to the 2002 census. Among its many problems including overpopulation and poverty i

Elite and non-elite agenda-setting on Twitter: the case of #almedalen 2018

In this paper, we study activity on Twitter in relation to the Swedish political festival Almedalsveckan, a week-long event where political parties, interest organizations, corporations and other actors for decades have gathered on the island of Gotland to discuss politics and public affairs. In 2018, a total of 4311 events (speeches, seminars, debates etc.) were arranged by 1929 separate actors a

2-cm versus 4-cm surgical excision margins for primary cutaneous melanoma thicker than 2 mm : long-term follow-up of a multicentre, randomised trial

Background: The optimal surgical excision margins are uncertain for patients with thick (>2 mm) localised cutaneous melanomas. In our previous report of this multicentre, randomised controlled trial, with a median follow-up of 6·7 years, we showed that a narrow excision margin (2 cm vs 4 cm) did not affect melanoma-specific nor overall survival. Here, we present extended follow-up of this cohort.

Long-term Outcomes of Follow-up for Initially Localised Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma : RECUR Database Analysis

Background: Optimal follow-up (FU) strategy to detect potentially curable (PC) recurrences after treatment of localised clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is unclear. This study retrospectively analysed a large international database to determine recurrence patterns and overall survival (OS), as part of a wider project to issue recommendations on FU protocols. Objective: To analyse associatio

Discovering Subgroups of Children With High Mortality in Urban Guinea-Bissau : Exploratory and Validation Cohort Study

divided the data set temporally, assessing the persistence of identified subgroups over different periods. The reassessment of mortality risk used the targeted maximum likelihood estimation (TMLE) method to achieve more robust causal modeling. Results: We analyzed data from 21,005 children. The mortality risk (6 weeks to 3 years of age) was 5.2% (95% CI 4.8%-5.6%) for children born between 2003 an
