'I Must Be from Somewhere. I'm Not from the Moon': Navigating the Politics of Labelling for Stateless Palestinian Refugees from Syria

This article explores the relationship between statelessness and refugeeness over time and space. It does so by drawing on how Palestinian refugees from Syria in Sweden navigate the various stateless and refugee labels imposed upon them before, during and after their flight from Syria to Sweden. Standpoint theory was deployed as the basis for understanding how this group of stateless refugees rela

LDPC Codes for Quantitative Group Testing With a Non-Binary Alphabet

We propose and analyze a novel scheme based on LDPC codes for quantitative group testing. The key underlying idea is to augment the bipartite graph by introducing hidden non-binary variables to strengthen the message-passing decoder. This is achieved by grouping items into bundles of size q within the test matrix, while keeping the testing procedure unaffected. The decoder, inspired by some works

Agenda 2030 Graduate School monthly newsletter #7 2023-10-15 Ylva van Meeningen Hi! A big big BIG thank you to all who participated in the PhD conference on Sustainable Development 29th of September, both as organizers and as participants. The conference was highly appreciated by the participants as these meeting places within the university are rare. But we can always improve and now have some ne

Making Egypt Home: Exploring the Everyday Integration of Syrian Refugees in Cairo

The purpose of this research is to examine the integration of Syrian refugees in Egypt, focusing on their individualized experiences in navigating opportunities and building their lives. Through in-depth semi-structured interviews with Syrian refugees residing in Cairo, this study examines their everyday lives, uncovering the multifaceted challenges they encounter and the various tactics they empl

Multidimensional correlation of nuclear relaxation rates and diffusion tensors for model-free investigations of heterogeneous anisotropic porous materials

Despite their widespread use in non-invasive studies of porous materials, conventional MRI methods yield ambiguous results for microscopically heterogeneous materials such as brain tissue. While the forward link between microstructure and MRI observables is well understood, the inverse problem of separating the signal contributions from different microscopic pores is notoriously difficult. Here, w

Neural Induction in the Absence of Mesoderm: β-Catenin-Dependent Expression of Secreted BMP Antagonists at the Blastula Stage in Xenopus

A growing body of work indicates that neural induction may be initiated prior to the establishment of the gastrula mesodermal organizer. Here, we examine neural induction in Xenopus embryos in which mesoderm induction has been blocked by Cerberus-short, a reagent that specifically inhibits Nodal-related (Xnr) signals. We find that extensive neural structures with cyclopic eyes and brain tissue are

Immunophenotypic analysis of erythroid dysplasia in myelodysplastic syndromes. A report from the IMDSFlow working group

Current recommendations for diagnosing myelodysplastic syndromes endorse flow cytometry as an informative tool. Most flow cytometry protocols focus on the analysis of progenitor cells and the evaluation of the maturing myelomonocytic lineage. However, one of the most frequently observed features of myelodysplastic syndromes is anemia, which may be associated with dyserythropoiesis. Therefore, ana

A new method to evaluate the thermal stability of lyophilized enzymes

The thermal inactivation of lyophilized chymotrypsin was studied at controlled water activities. At 60 °C the enzyme showed good stability except at aw 0.97, whereas at 75 °C considerable inactivation occured at most water activities. Increasing the amount of buffer on the preparation decreased the stability significantly. The optimal temperature of enzymatic activity was increased 14 °C, when the

7 Life Science Companies’Engagement with their University-basedEntrepreneurship Ecosystem: A Multi-Layered Approach

This chapter focuses on life science companies’ engagement with their university- based entrepreneurship ecosystem. It analyzes multiple case studies with life science companies based around Lund University in Sweden. Our results demonstrate that life science companies engage with their ecosystem through three interconnected engagement logics: network, relations, and governance. We propose a model

Nonlinear Stability of Periodic Roll Solutions in the Real Ginzburg–Landau Equation Against Cubm -Perturbations

The real Ginzburg–Landau equation arises as a universal amplitude equation for the description of pattern-forming systems exhibiting a Turing bifurcation. It possesses spatially periodic roll solutions which are known to be stable against localized perturbations. It is the purpose of this paper to prove their stability against bounded perturbations, which are not necessarily localized. Since all s
