I Weissögat

Review article on a new monograph by Ola Holmgren on the poetics of Peter Weiss (1916 - 1981), especially his relationship to the German and Swedish languages.

Eradication of nasopharyngeal carriage of penicillin-non-susceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae-is it possible?

Background: The South Swedish Pneumococcal Intervention Project (SSPIP) was started in 1995 with the aim of limiting the spread of penicillin-non-susceptible pneumococci (PNSP) in Skåne County, Sweden. As part of the SSPIP, eradication therapy with rifampicin in combination with 1 more antibiotic was considered on a social indication after prolonged carriage of 2-3 months. Methods: In this retrosp

Haemophilus influenzae P4 interacts with extracellular matrix proteins promoting adhesion and serum resistance.

Interaction with the extracellular matrix (ECM) is one of the successful colonization strategies employed by non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi). Here we identified Haemophilus lipoprotein 4 (P4) as a receptor for ECM proteins. Purified recombinant P4 displayed a high binding affinity for laminin (Kd=9.26 nM) and fibronectin (Kd=10.19 nM), but slightly less to vitronectin (Kd=16.51 nM). A P

How does Modernity Taste? Tomatoes in the Societal Change from Modernity to Late Modernity

The aim of this article is to discuss how changes in tomato food regulation, production and consumption, can be seen as part of a broader societal change from Modernity to Late Modernity. Based on evidence from the Swedish and European food systems we demonstrate how a system, which has been successfully managing development in food production for several decades by stressing rationality, homogene

Survey of the management of pancreatic pseudocysts in Sweden.

Objective . The management of pancreatic pseudocysts varies, based mainly on local traditions, resources and expertise. No prospective, randomized study has been done comparing different approaches to treatment. The aim of the present study was to identify current treatment strategies in Sweden. Material and methods. A questionnaire comprising 12 questions was e-mailed to the surgical departments

Peer effects in residential solar photovoltaics adoption—A mixed methods study of Swedish users

Neighbourhood peer effects (social influence) in the diffusion of residential solar photovoltaics (PV) have previously been identified and quantified in a number of studies. Yet, little has been known about the inner workings of peer effects in PV diffusion. In the present work, a survey and interviews were used to study peer effects among Swedish PV adopters. Participants acknowledged peer effect

Optimal time–frequency distributions using a novel signal adaptive method for automatic component detection

Finding objective methods for assessing the performance of time–frequency distributions (TFD) of measured multi-component signals is not trivial. An optimal TFD should have well resolved signal components (auto-terms) and well suppressed cross-terms. This paper presents a novel signal adaptive method, which is shown to have better performance than the existing method, of automatically detecting th
