Model vs. Market - A comparison of VaR and ES estimation for sector ETFs using model based IGARCH and market implied volatility in the VWHS framework

Tail risk metrics such as VaR and, especially ES are and have become of great importance to both investors and financial institutions such as banks in determining their amount of loss absorbing capital given the Basel framework. Estimating these metrics have become trivial, but to do it accurately while also taking market conditions such as periods of market stress into account still presents chal

How does algorithmic literacy challenge the utilisation of TikTok for global marketers, taking into account ethical concerns?

Thesis purpose: To investigate the role of algorithmic literacy in the case of TikTok, and how its strategic performance, including the challenges and associated ethical issues, affects global marketers. Methodology: Adapting a social constructivist approach, twelve qualitative semi-structured interviews with global marketers allowed us to gather deeper insights Theoretical perspective: In order

Cancer risk among patients hospitalized for Type 1 diabetes mellitus: a population-based cohort study in Sweden

P>Aims Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease with potential mechanistic links to immune-related cancers. We aimed at examining the overall and specific cancer risks among hospitalized T1DM patients from the national registers in Sweden. Methods A T1DM research cohort was created by identifying T1DM patients from the Hospital Discharge Register and linking them with the Cancer Re

Nanoscale structural and mechanical characterization of thin bicontinuous cubic phase lipid films

The mechanical response of lipid membranes to nanoscale deformations is of fundamental importance for understanding how these interfaces behave in multiple biological processes; in particular, the nanoscale mechanics of non-lamellar membranes represents a largely unexplored research field. Among these mesophases, inverse bicontinuous cubic phase QII membranes have been found to spontaneously occur

Anisotropic dynamics of magnetic colloidal cubes studied by X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy

Herein we present our results on the investigation of the influence of external magnetic fields on the anisotropic collective dynamics of core/shell colloidal cubes having a hematite core and silica shell. Owing to the hematite cores, these micrometer-sized particles possess permanent dipole moments, which are at an angle with respect to the long diagonal of the cubes. As a result, they self-assem

Immune response and gut microbiota of mice on a diet mimicking eating habits of elderly with risk of malnutrition development

The number of elderlies is increasing but prevalence of malnutrition has been reported. The aim of the study was to determine the significance of short-term nutritional deficiencies in mice. Immune status was assessed through flow cytometry of leucocytes in Peyer’s patches (PP) and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN), and intestinal microbiota was evaluated by terminal restriction fragment length polymor

Change in the chondroitin/dermatan structure in distal lung tissue from COPD patients

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive condition characterized by airway remodeling, including emphysema and fibrosis. Proteoglycans and their glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains are key components of the extracellular matrix and may be altered as the disease advances. This study analyzed lung tissue from COPD patients (GOLD stages II-III and IV), non-COPD smokers, and non-smoker

A war against education? : Violent conflict and the supply of schools and teachers in Burkina Faso

This paper examines how violent conflict affects the supply of education in one of the world’s poorest countries, Burkina Faso. We combine unique nationwide census data on all primary schools with geocoded records of Islamist violence to assess how local conflict exposure shapes school availability, staffing, and the mix of education provision. Using a staggered difference-in-differences design anThis paper examines how violent conflict affects the supply of education in one of the world’s poorest countries, Burkina Faso. Detailed characterization of in situ-generated MoS2 nanoparticles for the hydrodeoxygenation of pyrolysis oil

The production of fast pyrolysis bio-oil (FPBO) from secondary biomass is a promising technique for the production of liquid biofuels. However, the resulting FPBO is often viscous and chemically unstable, requiring significant upgrading while also being difficult to work with. To overcome this issue, FPBO can be hydrotreated using slurry hydrotreatment, which has a long history as a processing tec
