To clear-cut or not to clear-cut; Cost-benefit analyses of post-fire management approaches in the Ljusdal fire-complex

I den här studien undersöktes potentialen för återhämtningen av skogar utifrån skogsåtgärder efWildfires causes natural disturbances to ecosystems which can have potentially damaging results for ecosystem services and economic income from timber production. The post-fire management approach can be essential for the environmental work regarding the recovery of ecosystems and maintaining ecosystem services. The aim of this study was therefore to evaluate different post-fire management approac

The abuse of a dominant position by digital platforms has created new competition law problems, related to for example the usage of other platforms data and comparison services. The purpose of the thesis is to analyze and describe some of the competition law challenges in the form of abuse of a dominant position that i

The arts has a positive effect on the public health, which is shown in a report ordered by the WHO (Fancourt & Finn, 2019) and Theorell (2009, 2014 och 2018) highlights music and its positive influence on people. Ruud (2001) claims that the arts also should take responsibility in strengthening the public health

Effects of organic farming on bird diversity in North-West Spain

Many studies have investigated effects of organic farming on the abundance and diversity of farmland birds, but few have considered how these effects vary between seasons. We analysed the effects of organic farming during an entire year in a previously understudied region, Galicia (North-West Spain), a relatively heterogeneous landscape which is an important wintering and breeding ground for birds

Seasonal Dynamics of Brownification Mitigation in Constructed Wetlands

Increasing total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations concurrent with a darkening in water colour in boreal freshwaters is called brownification. This can affect crucial ecosystem services. Our study investigated constructed wetland optimisation regarding depth and water residence time (WRT) during different seasons to remedy dark water colour and high TOC concentrations, while retaining nitrogen r

Att balansera barnets åsikter och barnets bästa - En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterares arbete i spänningsfältet mellan barnets åsikter och skyddsbehov

This study aimed to examine how social workers work with children’s right to be heard and with assessments of the best interests of the child in social services investigations, as well as how they manage the tension between these two principles. The study adopted a qualitative approach and is based on semistructured interviews. The participants consisted of six investigative social workers from di

A Movable Combined Water Treatment Facility for Rainwater Harvesting

Alarming water shortage and increased water scarcity worldwide has led to increased interests in alternative water sources. Rainwater harvesting is one of them which is getting more and more attention. There is a huge potential for generalization and extension of rainwater harvesting system as an alternative water supply. This is especially important for arid and semi-arid regions where the water

A novel nature-based intervention rehabilitation program including equine-assisted therapy (the NBI-RP) for people with severe stress-related mental health problems. Outcomes on health, personal recovery, and activity level.

Objective: Stress-related mental health problems (MHP) are increasing worldwide. It has been shown that people with stress-related MHP may benefit from nature-based interventions (NBI), and equine-assisted therapy (EAT) to support their health, recovery, and activity level of daily life. However, the evidence-base to support this is still weak and there is a knowledge gap concerning health-, recov

Systematic Identification of Single Amino Acid Variants in Glioma Stem-Cell-Derived Chromosome 19 Proteins

Novel proteoforms with single amino acid polymorphism represent proteins that often have altered biological functions but are less explored in the human proteome. We have developed an approach, searching high quality shotgun proteomic data against an extended protein database, to identify expressed mutant proteoforms in glioma stem cell (GSC) lines. The systematic search of MS/MS spectra has recog

Coping with autonomy: Managers’ responses to the pendulum between activity-based and fixed reimbursement systems in Swedish hospital care

Governance and management in publicly funded services includes the processes that governments use to ensure that the activities of organizations involved in the delivery of public services are in line with those expected. In hospital care, the reimbursement model is viewed as an important tool to motivate providers to act in the interest of the funding body. The purpose of this study was to analys

Performance of new and aged injectors with and without fuel additives in a light duty diesel engine

Two sets of diesel injectors are tested in combination with common fuel additives in a multi-cylinder light-duty diesel engine. One set consists of new injectors and the other is aged by over 100,000 km use in a vehicle. Four fuels are tested with these injector sets to investigate the impact of fuel additives on combustion and emission characteristics. The results show that the aged injectors con

China’s Internet Finance Boom and Tyrannies of Inclusion

One of the main drivers of China’s e-commerce boom is the dramatic expansion of the country’s Internet finance industry, which has grown and diversified at a staggering rate over the past decade. The emergence of Chinese Internet finance has been discussed in largely positive terms as facilitating commercial activity. It has also been linked to the wider developmental goal of promoting financial i

Interclutch variation in egg size among starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) reflects female condition

Starlings show considerable variation in egg mass among clutches. Mean clutch egg mass was highly repeatable for females, but few characteristics of females were found to relate to egg mass. Egg mass related weakly to female age, but female age only explained a small part of the variation. Hatchling mass was strongly correlated with egg mass, but body mass at 14 d of age was unrelated to egg mass.

Caring for patients with spinal metastasis during an MRI examination

Introduction: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is without question the best tool used for diagnosing and evaluating spinal metastasis. An MRI examination is known to be of great value for the treatment planning and survival of these patients. Radiographers have an important role in how the quality of care is experienced by the patients during an MRI examination. The purpose of the study was to des

Electrochemical flow-ELISA for rapid and sensitive determination of microcystin-LR using automated sequential injection system

An amperometric immunoanalysis system based on monoclonal antibodies immobilized on Sepharose beads and packed into a micro-immunocolumn was developed for the quantification of microcystin-LR. Microcystin-LR (MCLR) was used as a reference microcystin variant. Inside the immunocolumn, free microcystins and microcystin-horseradish peroxidase (tracer) were sequentially captured by the immobilized ant

The clinical consequence of using less than four sensory perception examination methods in the Swedish surveillance system for Hand-Arm vibration syndrome

OBJECTIVES: The Swedish surveillance system aiming to reveal undetected Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) in workers exposed for vibrations is regulated by the provision AFS 2019:3. The goal for the surveillance system is to diagnose HAVS, as well as to find workers at risk for developing HAVS due to other conditions. The national guidelines stipulate examination using at least two out of four ha
