Some novel aspects of DNA physical and chemical gels

DNA chemical and physical networks have been investigated with respect to their stability and swelling, and rheological properties. Chemical networks were prepared by cross-linking DNA with ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE), and physical networks by association with cationic polymers. Both types of gels display strong elastic properties and have a shear thinning behaviour. Addition of cation

Computational study of the combustion process and NO formation in a small-scale wood pellet furnace

This paper presents a computational study of the combustion process of wood pellets in a small-scale grate fired furnace. The objectives were to obtain detailed information on the combustion characteristics and NO formation in the furnace, and to examine the effect of secondary air on the combustion process. The simulation results were compared with experimental data in terms of flame temperature

dUTPase from the Retrovirus Equine Infectious Anemia Virus: High-Level Expression in Escherichia coli and Purification

Deoxyuridine 5′-triphosphate nucleotidohydrolase (dUTPase, EC 3.6.1.23) catalyzes the hydrolysis of dUTP to dUMP and pyrophosphate, and plays important roles in nucleotide metabolism and DNA replication. The dUTPase gene of the retrovirus equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV) was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli using the T7 RNA polymerase expression system. The recombinant vector (pET

Mutation screening of the PTEN gene in patients with autism spectrum disorders and macrocephaly

Mutations in the PTEN gene are associated with a broad spectrum of disorders, including Cowden syndrome (CS), Bannayan-Riley-Ruvalcaba syndrome, Proteus syndrome, and Lhermitte-Duclos disease. In addition, PTEN mutations have been described in a few patients with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and macrocephaly. In this study, we screened the PTEN gene for mutations and deletions in 88 patients w

Bioavailability and sources of DOC and DON in macrophyte stands of a tropical coastal lake

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and nitrogen (DON) derived from aquatic and terrestrial vascular plants provide a major energy and nutrient source for freshwater and coastal marine biota. The bioavailability of this material may to a large extent depend on plant species. In this study, we have compared the bioavailability of DOC and DON sampled in two distinct stands of Typha domingensis and Eleoch

On the Stability of Solitary Water Waves with a Point Vortex

This paper investigates the stability of traveling wave solutions to the free boundary Euler equations with a submerged point vortex. We prove that sufficiently small-amplitude waves with small enough vortex strength are conditionally orbitally stable. In the process of obtaining this result, we develop a quite general stability/instability theory for bound state solutions of a large class of infi

Proteomic investigation of protein adsorption to cerebral microdialysis membranes in surgically treated intracerebral hemorrhage patients - A pilot study

Background: Cerebral microdialysis (CMD) is a minimally invasive technique for sampling the interstitial fluid in human brain tissue. CMD allows monitoring the metabolic state of tissue, as well as sampling macromolecules such as proteins and peptides. Recovery of proteins or peptides can be hampered by their adsorption to the CMD membrane as has been previously shown in-vitro, however, protein ad

Arbetskraftsinvandring -en problemorienterad studie av SAP: s hanterand av arbetskraftsinvandringsfrågan

The aim with this paper is to investigate how the Social Democratic Party (SAP) deals with the question of economic migrants, or more specifically how the problem is represented by the Social Democratic Party, and how this representation has developed over time. The SAP's theory became recently contested by a competing theory that was caused by the predicted future demographic development in S

Identification of a candidate dwarfing gene in Pallas, the first commercial barley cultivar generated through mutational breeding

Many induced mutants are available in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). One of the largest groups of induced mutants is the Erectoides (ert) mutants, which is characterized by a compact and upright spike and a shortened culm. One isolated mutant, ert-k.32, generated by X-ray treatment and registered in 1958 under the named “Pallas”, was the first ever induced barley mutant to be released on the market.

Analysen visar att det finns rättsThis analysis examines the right to freedom of artistic expression and its limits within Swedish law, using the example of unlawful threats in gangsta rap. This analysis also includes elements of a comparative method. By examining German law and judicial decisions, the aim is to place Swedish gangsta rap in a broader legal context. The analysis shows legal challenges related to gangsta rap – chal

Oaktat hur brottslig en verksamhet är, saknas det förutsättningar enligt svensk gällandCausing the development of violence in Sweden, organized criminal organizations are considered being one of societies greatest problems. Fundamental values such as democracy and legal security are threatened by the organized crime. Requiring governmental actions to fight organized crime, SOU 2025:2, recommend a change in the Swedish constitution. RF 2 kap. 24§ 2 st. suggests having following formu

Glucose upshift of carbon-starved marine Vibrio sp. strain S14 causes amino acid starvation and induction of the stringent response

The physiological status of carbon-starved cells of the marine Vibrio sp. strain S14 has been investigated by the analysis of their immediate response to carbon and energy sources. During the first minute after glucose addition to 48-h-starved cells, the pools of ATP and GTP increased rapidly, and the [ATP]/[ADP] ratio reached the level typical for growing cells within 4 min. The total rates of RN

APPLYING INTERSECTIONALITY IN CLIMATE POLICY AND PLANNING : Experiences from Gothenburg and Malmö

This chapter applies a critical feminist theory of intersectionality to analyse the climate policy efforts of two Swedish cities: Gothenburg and Malmö. As cities committed to ambitious climate goals, they are regarded as frontrunners. Actors in both cities acknowledge the challenges posed by organisational structures as they have made efforts to integrate measures, attempting to work more holistic
