Distribute white and black hats in a dark room to a group of three rational players with each player having a fifty-fifty chance of receiving a hat of one colour or the other. Clearly, the chance that, as a result of this distribution, (A) "Not all hats are of the same colour" is 3/4. The light is switched on and all players can see the hats of the other persons, but not the colour of their own ha

In this thesis we introduce some basic concepts in representation theory such as Schur’s Lemma, induced representations and M-groups. These concepts are then used in particular on a group G_96 of order 96, in order to determine its irreducible representations and its character table. Furthermore, we show that G_96 is an M-group and contains a subgroup which is not an M-group itself.

The antigens of the Cromer blood group system reside on decay accelerating factor (DAF), a protein belonging to the regulators of complement activation family. The blood group system consists of eight high-incidence antigens and three low-incidence antigens. The molecular basis for the antigens is known and, with the exception of IFC, each antigen is the product of a single nucleotide polymorphism

Social interaction sensing and indoor positioning using are widely researched. However, many use cases only need to determine proximity, and not the exact location. In this paper, we describe two methods to determine which meeting each user is participating in using proximity data collected from a challenging real-world office. We show that the RSSI threshold approach to detecting proximity is not

Background: Current models of group development favor views assuming that groups move from relative irrationality and inefficiency to rationality and efficiency in defined sequential stages. Aims: To present (a) a project questioning the generality of the linear progressive models of group development, (b) an alternative model taking into account factors related to formation, time, boundary manag

Primary aim of project: to examine if Group Weariness (GW) exists, a concept defined as a n e g a t i v e a t t i t u d e t o w a r d s w o r k i n g i n g r o u p s b a s e d o n p r e v i o u s e x p e r i e n c e s o f t h e w o r k i n g f o r m, and the meaning and consequences of the phenomenon. Secondary aim: to explore differences between those who experience GW and those who do not. In t

We present classical results for convex polytopes. After reviewing quaternions, we apply these algebraic tools to polyhedral graphs. In 1891, Eberhard wondered if there exists a trivalent polyhedron with an odd number of multitrivalent faces. In 1964, Motzkin was able to find a solution to the problem. He used the group formed by the 24 units in the ring of Hurwitz quaternion integers to obtain th

The protecting group tetraisopropyldisiloxane-1,3-yl has been investigated for simultaneous protection of two hydroxyls on pentopyranosides. Methyl α-d-xylopyranoside is protected in excellent regioselectivity and high yield to form the 2,3-protected xylopyranoside whereas methyl β-d-xylopyranoside gives the 3,4-protected product also with excellent regioselectivity.

Using wreath products, we construct a finitely generated pro-p group G with infinite normal Hausdorff spectrum here hdim p G : (X|X ⊂ G) [0,1]denotes the Hausdorff dimension function associated to the p-power series p:Gpi, i ε N0 More precisely, we show that hspec p (G)=[0,1/3] ∪ (1) contains an infinite interval; this settles a question of Shalev. Furthermore, we prove that the normal Hausdorff s

The present study examines whether foreign adoptees differ from normative samples in adult attachment status, and explores within-group differences associated with (in)secure attachment status in adult adoptees. Forty adoptees, from a previously representative study of foreign adoptees in Sweden, were interviewed with the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI). In adition, they were questioned about iss

Thousands of species migrate [1]. Though we have some understanding of where and when they travel, we still have very little insight into who migrates with whom and for how long. Group formation is pivotal in allowing individuals to interact, transfer information, and adapt to changing conditions [2]. Yet it is remarkably difficult to infer group membership in migrating animals without being able

We construct a 2-generated pro-2 group with full normal Hausdorff spectrum [0, 1] [0,1], with respect to each of the four standard filtration series: the 2-power series, the lower 2-series, the Frattini series, and the dimension subgroup series. This answers a question of Klopsch and the second author, for the even prime case; the odd prime case was settled by the first author and Klopsch. Also, o

CONCLUSIONS: The blood group antigen Vel has been one of immunohematology's greatest enigmas: the variation in antigen strength from one individual to another, the property of anti-Vel to readily hemolyze Vel+ red blood cells (RBCs), and the difficulty to screen for sufficient numbers of Vel- blood donors had made Vel a tough nut to crack. In 2013, a small, previously unknown protein called small

This chapter describes a protocol for the separation of different cell fractions from Streptococcus pyogenes and sample preparation for analysis by mass spectrometry. The presented approach can be used for the analysis of all subcellular proteomes from S. pyogenes and enables identification of drug or vaccine targets within a certain cellular fraction. Here, proteins integral to the plasma membran
